It was twenty five games ago that the Phantoms last captured a shut-out victory. During that June 16th contest against Dynamo at Rivertown Sports, the Yellow Shirts cranked up the offense and shut down the opponent to the tune of a 9-0 drumming. Just shy of six months later, the Phantoms again reached that mark, after the Phantoms defeated the Red Devils 9-0 on Sunday to improve to 7-1 on the season. The Phantoms again played a well-rounded game as eight different marksmen would tally goals for the Phantoms. Ty Coon, Brian Doctor, Matt Myers, Andy Roseart, Casey Rosenberg, Mike Shaver and Matt Zehr would each record a goal during the 9-0 whitewash. Trent Kik would be the only Phantom to register a pair of strikes. While the score would make it sound like a complete Phantom assault, the Red Devils would actually outshoot the Phantoms 25-22 during the contest. The Red Devils would have five excellent scoring chances, yet Phantom netminder Kevin Wootton would sprout rubber limbs on demand to seal the goal and preserve the shut-out. It was only fitting that Wootton's Biggest Fan would be in attendance during the night, watching his goalie in action. Austin, nephew of Matt and Brad Zehr, made his first appearance to the Cedar Springs arena and helped cheer on the Phantoms to the win. The Phantoms would register 12 penalty minutes during the contest. The Phantoms will return to action on Sunday during a 4:00pm face-off against the Puck-Ups. Sunday's game will mark the final game for the Phantoms during the 2006 calendar year. Phantom Hockey...We Are The Phantoms.
