While I don't think the Phantoms are near a breaking point when it comes to sportsmanship, I think something has to be said before the issue mounts. I am very aware that the Phantoms don't have the greatest reputation when it comes to the team's attitude/sportsmanship. I think much of that comes from a few Rivertown players that liked to aggravate certain Phantom players knowing that we are a team that will stand up for ourselves and each other. However, after talking with a Rogue River player following the game, he did question me about two situations that took place during our game. I did take the conversation personally and told him that I would talk to the team. Having played for Rogue River for a season and subbing for them on countless occasions, I have nothing but respect for their team and their players and anytime I get outside input concerning our team I will take note. One of the reasons we moved to Lazerskate was to get out of the tension that created fights and cheap shots at Rivertown. Here at Lazerskate, they don't have all the extracurricular activities and rarely are there fights. Being a new team at Lazerskate, I expect us to remember that we are the newbies and remember that we don't want to bring any grudges or hostel play that has become all too common at Rivertown here. I can't speak for other teams. But, I expect us to be the better team and better man in dealing with slashes, cross-checks and other penalties. I am not saying to not stand up for yourselves or teammates, but remember that we need to look the other way on the small stuff and remember that in sports, tension mounts and we
as the Phantoms need to keep our cool and don't get caught up in the moment to even out an action. Be the Better Man!
