As the Phantoms kick off the 38th Season of hockey, the team is excited to make some improvements and announcements to help bolster the leadership roles of one of the longest consecutive ran recreational teams in West Michigan. The team is very pleased to officially present Trent Kik with a 'C' on the jersey to represent the Captain of the Phantoms. Kik, who has been the official Captain of the Phantoms for several years, will for the first time officially wear the 'C' on his jersey beginning with the September 21st game to open the Winter 2014 season at Walker Ice & Fitness. Additionally, the team is announcing that Matt Myers will serve as Assistant Captain for the Phantoms this season and like Kik, will wear the representing letter on the Phantom sweater. "Both of these individuals have been a large part of the Phantoms for several years and each bring great leadership qualities to the Phantoms that allow the team to continue to successful and have fun both on and off the ice," said General Manager Kevin Wootton. "Kik and Myers have been active with the team since the team played inline hockey at Rivertown Sports in Grandville and have proven to be two-way players who know the qualities of each of the Phantom members and able to help teach and show improvement possibilities to our teammates," added Wootton. This Winter 2014 season will mark the 38th overall season for the Yellow Shirts and will represent the eighth season at Walker Ice & Fitness since shifting to ice. Trent Kik, a native of Sparta, MI., will continue to bring a strong, yet simple brand of hockey to the Phantoms and continue to push players to their personal best, all while keeping 'The Fun Starts Here' attitude with the Phantoms. Trent Kik will be assisted by Matt Myers as the Assistant Captain, who has led the T2 Gong Show Hockey Club for several years and acts as General Manager and Captain for the MIHA's Inline squad based out of Grand Rapids, MI. For years, the Phantoms and Gong Show have had a connected relationship with several players being apart of both organizations. "I feel the ability of Matt to successfully lead the Gong Show is a true reflection of his leadership qualities which will again help strengthen and bond the Phantoms into a competitive team this upcoming season," said Wootton. Matt Myers took the Summer 2014 off from the Phantoms and will return this season and ready to serve as the Assistant Captain. As mentioned, the Phantoms will kick off the Winter 2014 season on September 21st and play 18-regular season games on Sunday nights at Walker Ice & Fitness.
