There are very few times that the outspoken goaltender and leader of the West Michigan Phantoms finds himself at a loss of words.   However, on Sunday, April 15th, the current 32-season netminder for the West Michigan Phantoms was stunned and shocked by an unexpected and generous gift from the brother of one of the Phantom members.  Matt Manning, younger brother of longtime Inline and current Ice team Phantom Chad Manning, presented Wootton with a custom hand-painted goaltender action figure of himself prior to the teams Game One match-up against DeBoer.  The figure which mirrors the Starting Line-Up figures and the McFarlane Sports figures was custom painted in a special 10th Anniversary Edition to represent the Phantom netminder who joins the cast of many during the teams upcoming season to honor 10-Years of Phantom Hockey.  What a very rare and unique gift this was, said Kevin Wootton.  Having myself done up in an action figure is something that I will hold onto and cherish for life and is something that truly touched me emotionally once I was able to put a close eye on it at home, added Wootton.  The figure comes with hand-painted detail including the correct blocker color pattern that Wootton has worn for the past several years and includes the same color combination on the glove and leg pads that Wootton has worn since his days at Rivertown Sports.  In addition, the Mini-Woot features the Koho logo on the pants, the yellow hockey socks with black and white stripes near the bottom, the Nautys (Bar) logo on the back of the jersey, the recently added Phantom logos on the black helmet as well as the #35 on the back of the helmet and jersey.  No single detail was forgotten from the head to toe, even my Warrior stick in the correct colors was done correctly...it is very impressive, said Wootton.  The action figure was packaged in a customized scheme featuring real photos of Wootton in action, the Phantom logo imposed in various styles on the cardboard and a 10th Anniversary Edition mark noted on the back.  It is truly amazing that Matt took the time and detail to create this work of art for the goalie of his brothers team, Wootton said.  In nearly 10-years as goaltender and leader of this team, it is very touching to know all of the hard, behind the scenes work and non-stop commitment that I display to this team and its members is not taken for granted, forgotten or overlooked, Wootton said.  The members of this team are like my brothers and I try my best to ensure this group of great individuals has fun with each other and enjoys being a member of this team; I ask nothing in return except for commitment and dedication and knowing that Matt took the time to custom-paint a figure for the goaltender of his brothers team is a perfect reward and honor, Wootton said.  After receiving the gift from Chad in the locker room, every member of the team was impressed and had to see it close-up and everyone was stunned by the detail that Matt was able to produce.  I can not believe it, everything was perfect and done to a T, including the puck being in front of me and not in the net, Wootton said.  I can not thank Matt enough for presenting with this once-in-a-lifetime gift, it truly means a lot, Wootton said.
