In a season that has brought so many individual player milestones to members of the West Michigan Phantoms, Chad Manning becomes the newest member to etch his name into Phantom Hockey History.  On February 19th, Chad Manning recorded a goal and an assist in the teams 8-3 victory over WM Masonry to become to just the ninth player in team history to reach the 100 Point Club.  Manning, who has been a member of Phantom teams at Cedar Rock, Rivertown Sports and Walker Ice for several years, has spent his time between defensive and offensive roles for the Phantoms and is an all-around-player who is able to demonstrate great skill regardless of what position he is called upon.   Manning will enter the 100-Point-Club having scored 67 goals and adding 33 assists for his Phantom career.  In that span, the Grand Rapids native has recorded just 30 penalty minutes, making him one of the fewest penalized members who has been with the team for so long.  As mentioned, Manning becomes just the ninth player in team history to join the 100-Point-Club and follows longtime teammate and friend Tim Vanoverloop into the prestigious category for the Phantoms.  Chad is a pure sniper who quietly goes about his business, said teammate Trent Kik.  He's a clean player and is always counted on to contribute to our team, Kik added.  Manning, who up until this season hasnt played ice hockey in years, started out the season slow for the Phantoms after leading the team last season in goals with 16.  Despite not registering a point in his first eight games of this season, Chad is now becoming use to the ice and has tallied 3 goals and 4 assists for the Phantoms in the span of just eight games.  Chad is a quiet individual who brings humor, sportsmanship and fun to this Phantom team, said goaltender Kevin Wootton.  Having played alongside Chad for so many years, his ability to be a steady workhorse, have a positive outlook in any circumstance and his laid-back style is something that I admire and proud that we as Phantoms have been able to witness, Wootton added.  Chad has been a part of two Phantom championship teams, the most recent Summer 2011 Bronze team at Cedar Rock Sports Plex (inline) and the Winter 2008 Bronze team at Cedar Rock (inline).  No matter if Chad is called upon to play defense or offense, I know that he will give his all and be successful at it, Wootton said.  Trent Kik went on to close with The one thing that sticks out to me when I watch Chad play is how hard he is on the back check and how accurate his shot isMust be that 8.0.8 stick!   Player stats during the course of the nearly Ten-Year Phantom history have only been kept for games played at Cedar Rock and Walker Ice & Fitness. Rivertown Sports did/does not keep individual stats for its adult leagues.
