The West Michigan Phantoms were able to truncate a rare two-game losing skid on Sunday, as the yellow shirts were able to overcome a two goal deficit and stage eight straight goals to down the Puck-Ups by the final of 8-2.The Phantoms, who have been playing extremely shorthanded for the past three games entering Sundays tilt, were able to play with eight skaters which represented the most skaters since a July 17th game at Cedar Rock Sports Plex. Two quick goals by the Puck-Ups in the games opening 1:28, which included a blue-line blast from the left wing that appeared to catch the Phantom netminder recovering from fellow Phantom-Casey Rosenbergs bachelor party the night before, allowed the Puck-Ups to draw first blood and march into a quick 2-0 lead over the Phantoms. However, the two quick goals by the Puck-Ups only shot an energy boost straight into the veins of the Phantom Crew, as from that point the Phantoms would claw their way back into the game and seize control of eight straight goals to complete the Yellow Rally in the construction-filled rink on Cornfield Drive.Jason Schemmel would lead the Phantom charge five minutes after the Puck-Ups second goal, as the longtime Phantom and Ambassador to Phantom Hockey would break the Phantoms onto the scoreboard (assisted by Brad Zehr) and trim the deficit to a stant singleton.Four minutes later the comeback would be complete, as the Phantom Netminder would freight train a pass up the right-wing boards to a Chris Benedict Express Train departing from the Red Line Station. With near fire escaping from the wheels of Benedict, the Navyman would manage to duek the Puck-Up netminder near the crease and riffle a back-hand beauty to the top corner of the cage to even to the duel at 2-2 (Nate Tyler also received an assist). Both teams would complete the opening 16 minutes tied at two.In the second, the Men of Phantom Nation would dig in right from the drop of the puck.In his first game back since a July 22nd car accident, Trent Kik would give the Phantoms their first lead of the night just 60 seconds into the period, as the lucky to be alive Phantom product would receive a Tim Vanoverloop feed to mount the Phantoms on top at 3-2.Roughly seven minutes later, Trent Kik would do it again as the Men Lovers Line forward would cap an unassisted tally to increase the Phantom lead to a pair at 4-2.Late in the second period, Phantom defensemen Nate Tyler would unleash a Phantom Howitzer from the left wing side that would deflect off traffic in front and reach the topshelf of the left side of the Puck-Up cage to continue the Phantom onslaught and increase the lead to 5-2 (Chris Benedict with the assist). In the third period, the Phantoms would put the game out of reach with three more tallies to add to the scoresheet.Chris Benedict would cap his second of the night just 7:18 into the third (assisted by Brad Zehr) to tower the Phantoms into a 6-2 lead.Just over a minute later, Ryan Mylenek would add to his young Phantom totals, as the Mona Shores standout would lift the Phantoms into a 7-2 lead with a Jason Schemmel assist. With 3:08 remaining in the ever-expanding Phantom lead, Chris Benedict would complete the hat-trick and let out a good ole Phantom cheer with his third of the night (unassisted) to give the Phantoms an 8-2 victory and climb back above the .500 mark with a 4-3 record on the season. On the game, the Phantoms outshot the Puck-Ups 25-17.On the penalty minute clock, the Phantoms would display a complete turnaround from the week before, as the Phantoms received the best of the powerplay front. The Phantoms were ticketed with one minor for two minutes, while the Puck-Ups were sentenced on six infractions for 20 minutes. The Phantoms played without the services of Gordie Anderson (suspension), Brian Doctor (injury), John Dykehouse (house work), Chad Manning (vacation) and Eric Stubig (work). The Phantoms will return to action on Sunday, August 21st to take on Team Jager at 5:00pm.As we have said all along, plenty of great choice seats are always available for Phantom Hockey and the team hopes to put another smile on the face of Jim Mylenek with another victory next week at Cedar Rock.
