The West Michigan Phantoms waited until the final game of the regular season to let their offense shine, as the Men of Phantom Nation staged a season high eight goals on Sunday during an 8-3 win against Team Jager. More importantly, the win pushed the Phantoms two points ahead of the Coyote Uglies to secure fourth place in the upcoming Spring 2011 post season at Cedar Rock, as the team completes the 10-game regular season with a 5-3-0-2 overall record. Jason Schemmel (assisted by Tim Czycyk and Tim Vanoverloop) would begin the Phantom heroics in the opening frame against Jager, as #28 would even the duel following an early Team Jager strike just under four minutes into the frame. Roughly five minutes later the Phantoms would climb into their first league of the evening, as Tim Czycyk would stage his second of the season (unassisted) to give the Phantoms a 2-1 lead. That lead would grow and never be lost throughout the balance of the contest as the Phantom's Co-Captain Chris Benedict would increase his team scoring to 10 goals on the season and secure a 3-1 lead for his Phantoms (assisted by Gordie Anderson) with 3:08 remaining in the initial period. With just 45 seconds remaining in opening frame, Justin Calkins would set-up Tim Czycyk for his second of the game and give the Phantoms a 4-1 lead entering the first intermission. Through the opening 16 minutes, the Phantoms would land four goals on ten shots to quickly and quietly blast Team Jager. Just 16 seconds into the second period Team Jager would trim the Phantom lead to a pair of goals at 4-2. That slim two goal cushion would remain intact for the Phantoms until late in the second period when Justin Calkins would again set-up his offensive teammates, this time to Jason Schemmel who would record his second of the contest and restore the Phantom three-goal-grip at 5-2. Team Jager would outshoot the Phantoms 9-7 in the second period and overtake the Phantoms on total game shots at 18-17 through two periods. In the third, Team Jager would strike just 4:30 into the final frame in an attempt to keep the game close, but after that the Phantoms would go on a tare and blast three goals in the span of just under eight minutes to complete the contest scoring with the Phantoms on top 8-3. Third period goals would be scored by the Phantom's Gordie Anderson and a pair by Chris Benedict. On the game, Team Jager would out shoot the Phantoms 26-25. The Phantoms would be sentenced on four penalties for a total of 16 minutes in infractions and loose the services of Trent Kik late in the third period in a case of mistaken identity. Game official Brian Dudek would send Trent Kik to the locker on a 10-minute misconduct for actions that were actually the result of the Phantom's Gordie Anderson. As for Team Jager, they would be sentenced on just a single minor for two minutes.  The Phantoms played without the services of Darren Skuse, who was placed on the team's injured reserve during the weekend. This game witnessed the final game played by longtime team member Justin Calkins who announced his departure one week prior to Colorado. Calkins completed the contest with two assists to close out his Phantom stint. The team will return to action on Sunday, May 1st to begin the post-season at Cedar Rock.
