With the Phantoms in control of their own destiny, the Yellow and Black picked up two huge points in the post-season standings on Sunday by defeating the Puck-Ups by the final of 3-1. The victory was spearheaded by a pair of goals from team captain Trent Kik, as was a third period singleton by Jason Schemmel. The victory pushed the Phantoms to a 3-1 post-season record and should be enough to send the Phantoms to the Bronze league post-season for the fourth straight season. The Phantoms opened the first-period scoring just 6:55 into the frame, as John Dykehouse would feed Trent Kik with his second goal of the play-offs and team leading sixth post-season point. That lone tally would hold into the first intermission with the Phantoms well in control out shooting the Puck-Ups 11-5. The Second period would witness the Phantoms mount into a two goal lead, as Trent Kik would tally his second of the evening just 1:32 into the middle stanza (unassisted). With a very strong Phantom defense, that two goal lead would prolong the Phantoms into the final frame with a two goal cushion despite the Puck-Ups edging the Phantoms 8-6 on shots in the second period. Jason Schemmel would expand the Phantom's lead into a 3-0 variety 6:06 into the third period, as the Grand Rapids native would strike with his second of the play-offs (assisted by Trent Kik).  Late in the third period the Puck-Ups would life their netminder Dave Sny for an extra attacker in an effort to spoil the shut-out bid for their rivals. Their extra-man-band would pay off almost instantly, as on their first push into Phantom territory, several bodies towards the right hand side of the zone would create a crowded blur of players in line with the goaltender and the Puck-Ups would manage to claw their way to a single tally on the scoreboard. That Puck-Up goal would be scored with just 61 seconds remaining on the clock.  The Phantoms would fend off the remaining time and take claim to a 3-1 victory over the Puck-Ups. The victory marks the third time the Phantoms have edged the Puck-Ups this season. The win more importantly as mentioned, pushes the team's post-season record to 3-1 and gives the Phantoms their birth in the Bronze championship game which will take place on Sunday, January 23rd at the Cedar Rock Sports Plex.
