The West Michigan Phantoms continue to experience a very disappointing month of December. On Sunday night the team dropped its play-off opener against Team Jager by the final of 5-3 to begin the post-season behind the eight ball.  The defeat marked the third loss for the Phantoms in the team's last four games at the Cedar Rock Sports Plex and mark the second consecutive loss against team Jager dating back to the regular season. Bad bounces, bad luck and several bad plays all combined in the final two frames to give the Phantoms their third loss of the season. Darren Skuse would open the games scoring early in the first period, as the former Fruitport Trojan staged his second goal of the season (assisted by Chad Manning) to put the Phantoms on top at 1-0. In the middle period, Team Jager would mount their presence on the scoresheet, as a routine dump-in would witness the Phantom netminder inadvertently mis-play the puck behind his own net and the Team Jager would complete the wrap-around into the wide-open net to even the duel at 1-1. In the third, Team Jager would begin to capitalize on plenty of Phantom misfortunes. Just 1:15 into the final frame, an innocent looking point shot would beat Wootton near the post to give Team Jager their first lead of the night at 2-1.  The Phantoms would quickly answer back 4:35 later, as Gordie Anderson would tip-in a Jason Schemmel blast from the left-wing to mount the Phantom equalizer at 2-2. Minutes later with the Phantom's Keith Moorman in the penalty box for roughing, Team Jager would again regain their second lead of the night to quickly silence the yellow shirts. Late in the period with the Team Jager and the Phantoms beginning to increase their rivially against each other, Team Jager would feed off of a Phantom defensive error to the left of the cage and net their fourth goal of the contest to climb into their first multi-goal lead of the night.  The Phantoms would cut that lead back to one goal two minutes later, as Darren Skuse would again make his presence known in the post-season with his second of the contest (again assisted by Chad Manning) to bring the Phantoms back to within one goal trailing 4-3.  Despite the Phantom goaltender pulled for the extra attacker, the Phantoms would not be able to post a heroic comeback. Team Jager would net an empty net goal with just a single second remaining to take claim to a 5-3 post-season victory against the Phantoms.  The Phantoms played without the services of Tim Czycyk.  An accurate total of game shots was against not collected by Cedar Rock Sports Plex personal. The Phantoms will take a week off for Christmas and return to action on Sunday, January 2.
