The West Michigan Phantoms earned two huge points in the standings on Sunday, as the Yellow Shirts were able to rally from down two goals to defeat Mungduhl in the first of two games on Sunday at the Cedar Rock Sports Plex. Despite Mungduhl registering two goals just 1:27 apart in the opening period, the Phantoms dug in and backed to capture the team's sixth victory of the season. Tim Vanoverloop cracked the Phantom score sheet with 5:42 remaining in the opening period (assisted by Gordie Anderson) to begin the Phantom march on the board. The Phantom's Jason Schemmel would tie the contest with just minutes remaining in the opening period (unassisted), to even the duel entering the first intermission. In the second, the Phantoms would strike first to climb into their first lead of the contest and the register the first of two second period strikes. The push would begin by the unlikeliest of Phantom scoring heros, as Darren Skuse would net his first goal in two season for the Phantoms (assisted by John Dykehouse) to give the Men of Phantom Nation a 3-2 lead. That lead would climb to a pair roughly five minutes later, as Tim Czycyk would set up Jason Schemmel for his second of the contest to give the Phantoms at 4-2 lead. Late in the second period Mungduhl would mount their pressure and narrow the contest to a single goal game as the Phantoms would enter the second intermission ahead 4-3. In the third, the Phantoms would continue to excel and save their best performance for last. Trent Kik would restore the Phantom's two goal grip with 8:24 remaining in the third period (unassisted) to advance the Phantoms into a 5-3 lead. John Dykehouse would complete the Phantom scoring with his fourth of the season with 6:32 remaining in the period to seal the 6-3 victory for the Phantoms. Mungduhl would outshoot the Phantoms 27-26 on the contest. Both teams would complete the contest with two minutes in penalties. The second half of the double header would be mirrored with controversy and heated attitudes. The Phantoms would skate off the rink with roughly four minutes remaining in the second period after a severe cross-cross against the Phantom's Nate Tyler in a 9-0 Stallions game.
