The West Michigan Phantoms were able to climb back from down two goals early in the first period and take claim to a 7-4 victory against the Puck-Ups on Sunday. The victory marked the fifth victory of the season for the Yellow and Black who climb to an impressive 5-1 record. Despite two goals by the Puck-Ups in the first 7:04 of the contest, the Phantoms would begin to fight back minutes later, as Trent Kik (assisted by Tim Vanoverloop) would blast a red-line blast past David Sny in the Puck-Up goal to put the Phantoms on the board trailing 2-1. The Phantoms would continue their bounce back and achieve the equalizer 1:36 later, as Chad Manning (assisted by Brian Doctor) would extend his goal scoring streak to two games to even the duel at 2-2. In the second period, the Phantoms would climb into their first lead of the night just 5:11 into the stanza, as John Dykehouse would knock home a Darren Skuse centering attempt (also assisted by Gordie Anderson) to give Darren Skuse his first point in 14 games and a 3-2 Phantom lead. That lead would be short lived for the 29th Season Franchise, as the Puck-Ups would bring both squads into a 3-3 tie 3:11 later. Less than a minute later, Jason Schemmel would strike to give the Phantoms their second and final lead of the contest, as GRCC grad would stage his fifth of the season to give the Phantoms a 4-3 lead after two periods of play. The Phantoms dominated the Puck-Ups in the middle frame outshooting them 12-3. In the third period, the Phantoms would watch their lead swell to two goals, as Brian Doctor would feed a completely wide-open Jason Schemmel in front of the Puck-Up cage. Prior to the Phantom goal light celebration, Jason would manage to look at the puck, then at the Puck-Up goaltender and just smile and as if the nail was coming, rocket the puck five-hole on Sny for the second straight Phantom goal. The Phantoms would continue their climbing of the scoreboard roughly five minutes later, as John Dykehouse would stage his second of the night (assisted by Darren Skuse) to put the Phantoms in charge of a 6-3 lead with a mere 2:57 remaining in the contest. Less than 45 seconds later the Phantom netminder would be caught in a rare spot, as he would skate into the corner to retrieve a Puck-Up dump-in and manage to fall on a Puck-Up forward in the process allowing the Puck-Ups a wide open net to cash in on their fourth and final goal of the game. Despite the blow, the Phantoms would restore their three-goal-grip 1:10 later, as Jason Schemmel would complete the three-goal-hat-trick and send a rink long shot into the wide open Puck-Up empty net goal for a 7-4 victory. As mentioned, the victory improved the Phantom record to 5-1 on the season. On the game, the Phantoms out shot the Puck-Ups 31-15. The Puck-Ups were sentenced to three minors for six minutes, while the Phantoms were ticketed on a single minor for two minutes (to the Phantom goaltender) on the Nauty's Penalty Minute Clock.
