The West Michigan Phantoms were able to stage two goals in the second period to overcome a 1-0 deficit on Sunday night in a thrilling contest against Team Jager and come away with a 2-1 hard-fought victory.   The Phantom game played before nearly seven spectators at the Cedar Rock Sports Plex in Cedar Springs was the second encounter of the season against Team Jager, both of which have watched the Phantoms capture slim single-goal wins.  Team Jager would jump into the lead 8:40 into the contest, as a 3-on-1 breakout by Team Jager would witness the winless squad shuffle the puck across to the right wing and just beat the Phantom goaltender high blocker side for a 1-0 Jager lead.  That lead would hold throughout  the balance of the opening period despite the Phantoms out shooting Team Jager 7-6 in a very tight defensive opening period.   The Phantoms and Team Jager would continue to get chances into the second period, however, the Phantoms Chad Manning would even the duel just 6:56 into the middle stanza to notch both teams into a 1-1 tie.  For Manning, the unassisted strike would be his third of the season for the yellow shirts, which already ties his goal scoring mark last season at three.   The Phantoms would climb into their first and only lead of the night roughly four minutes later, as the Phantoms Jason Schemmel would set-up Tim Czycyk in front of the Jager cage to push the Phantoms into a 2-1 lead.  For Czycyk, the goal would end a three-game-scoring drought and mark his fourth goal of the season for the Phantoms.  Both teams would continue to express great speed and effort for the duration of the second period, however, the goaltenders and defense from both teams would control the very tight and competitive contest.  Both Team Jager and the Phantoms would register 9 shots on goal during the middle period.  In the third period, the defensive efforts and goaltenders would continue to be the storyline.  Despite a combined shot total of 15 by both clubs, neither team would be able to penetrate the defensive forcefield.  In the third period, the Phantoms outshot Team Jager 8-7.  On the contest, the Phantoms edged Team Jager 24-22 in shots.  On the Nautys Penalty Minute Clock, Team Jager captured the only penalty of the contest for two minutes.  As mentioned, the victory marks the second win of the season against Team Jager for the Phantoms.  The win improves the Phantom record to an impressive 3-1.  The team will not return to Cedar Rock until Sunday, November 21st  (team and time still to be announced).  The mere single goal against by the Phantoms against Jager marks the fewest goals against in a single contest by the Phantoms since a June 20th 5-1 victory against the Puck-Ups.  The Phantoms currently reside in second place in the Bronze league at the Plex, four points back of league leading Stallions (with a game inhand) and a single point ahead of third place Mungdual.  The Phantoms are the third highest scoring team in the division with 18 strikes through four games and the third best defensive team with 16 goals against through four clashes.
