The West Michigan Phantoms closed out the regular sesaon on a postive note and in the process came away with the top seed for the Summer 2010 season at Cedar Rock Sports Plex.  The 7-4 victory by the Phantoms on Sunday to clinch the top spot for the post-season marks the third victory against the Puck-Ups this season and gives the yellow shirts an impressive 8-2 regular season record.  The Phantom regular season finale was spearheaded by a two goal proformance by Jason Schemmel, Gordie Anderson and Trent Kik each and overall a four point showing by Gordie Anderson and Trent Kik.  Having many on the team critized over the past week for their lack of offensive support, the Phantoms rose to the challange and witness the above three members net two each, while Nate Tyler completed the contest with a stant singleton.  This Phantom offensive showing was also the first time this sesaon that star-studded forward Tim Czycyk was held off the goal scoring sheet, however, the Phantom leading scorer did complete the night with two assists.  The Phantoms would manage to get on the board 5:27 into the opening period, as Tim Czycyk would set-up Jason Schemmel to give the Phantoms a 1-0 lead.  Exactly 6:59 later the Phantoms would jump into a 2-0 lead, as Gordie Anderson would yield his seventh of the season (assisted by Trent Kik).  The Phantoms would manage to knock home the third of the period late in the opening period, as the longest playing Phantom defensemen/forward Nate Tyler would unleash a powerfull blast from the left wing and with the help of a tip off Puck-Up goaltender David Sny's stick, find the the top right corner to put the Phantoms on top 3-0 after one period.  The Phantom's would manage to outshoot the Puck-Ups 9-8 in the opening period.  In the second period, the goals would continue to sink the Puck-Ups.  Just 1:40 into the middle period, Gordie Anderson would feed off a Trent Kik pass to push the Phantoms in front at 4-0.  Four Minutes following the Anderson light lighter, the Puck-Ups would finally manage to get on the board.   A Phantom mis-cue on the left wing boards would yield a wide-open Puck-Up forward in front of the Phantom cage and a simple pass would allow the forward to bury the puck over the glove of the down and out Phantom goaltender for a 4-1 Phantom lead.  Jason Schemmel would strike with his second of the game and his 11th of the season with 5:24 left to launch the Phantoms into the five-spot at 5-1.  However, the Phantom goaltender would continue to suffer from a weekend-long curse late in the period.  With the puck to the left of the Phantom cage, Phantom defensemen Nate Tyler would take a golf swing in an effort to the clear the puck, however, the swing would riffle the puck into his own net to close out the period with the Phantoms leading 5-2.  In the third period, both teams would exchange goals 29 seconds apart to advance the score to 6-3.  Trent Kik would net his first of the contest (assiste by Gordie Anderson) to net the sixth of the duel for the Phantoms.  Trent Kik would capture his second of the night 38 seconds after his first, as the Phantom captain would complete a patented Kik Highlight real goal to give the Phantoms their seventh of the contest.  Late in the period, the Puck-Ups would close out the games scoring to complete the 7-4 contest against two of the oldest  operating teams at Cedar Rock.  The Phantoms played without the services of Brian Doctor and Darren Skuse.  On the game, the Phantoms out shot the Puck-Ups 25-24.  On the Justin Calkins Photography Penalty Clock, the Phantoms were sentenced with three minors for six minutes, while the Puck-Ups were banished on a single minor for two minutes.  The victory marks the seventh consecutive victory against the Puck-Ups for the Phantoms dating back to September 20th, 2009.  The Phantoms will return to action next Sunday to open the post-season for the Summer 2010 season.
