The West Michigan Phantoms were able to fend off a five goal second period blitz by Howies and strike with three goals in the third period to knock off the former league king pins for the second straight contest of the season. The Phantom's 7-6 win against Howies was spearheaded by a three-goal hat-trick from Tim Czycyk, a pair of strikes by Jason Schemmel and singletons from Trent Kik and Chad Manning. The Phantoms were erupt just 2:23 into the opening period, as Jason Schemmel would beat the Howies netminder (assisted by Darren Skuse and Chad Manning) to charge the Phantoms into a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, the lead would swell to two goals as Jason Schemmel would stage his second of the contest (assisted by Tim Vanoverloop) to increase the Phantom lead to a pair at 2-0. That two goal lead would hold until the second period, when Howies would notch their first of the game 2:15 into the second period to climb back into contention trailing 2-1. The Phantoms would respond roughly four minutes later as Tim Czycyk would receive a set-up feed from Jason Schemmel to restore the Phantom's two goal grip at 3-1. However, that lead would run into a series of Howies that would watch the once Phantom two goal lead slip into the team trailing Howies 5-3. Four Howie goals in the span of 4:33 would penetrate the Phantom netminder and send the Phantoms into a state of ergancy. With 1:28 remaining in the middle period, Phantom captain Trent Kik would begin to give the Phantoms confidenance and begin the fight back for the lead. Trent would strike with assists from Brian Doctor and Justin Calkins to bring the Phantoms to within one at 5-4 as both teams entered the second intermission. In the third period, the Phantoms would come out flying. Chad Manning would even the duel just 1:49 into the third period, as the Phantom forward would receive an assist from Gordie Anderson to tie the game at 5. Tim Czycyk would restore the Phantom lead with 11:40 remaining in the period, as the GRCC grad would cap an unassisted strike to give the Phantoms a 6-5 lead.  However, the reigning Bronze champion Howies would manage to tie the game with just 1:47 remaining in the contest to once again bring the thought of an overtime shoot-out to the players on both benches. That thought would be silenced with 25 seconds remaining in the game, as Tim Czycyk would be the hero for the Phantoms, netting the game winner with just 25 tics remaining to again restore the Phantom lead at 7-6. &The Phantoms would manage to kill off the remaining time on the clock and skate to their fifth victory of the season and second against Howies. The victory marks only the third time since the Phantoms shifted to Cedar Rock that the Phantoms have captured two or more victories against Howies in a single season and the first time in the Bronze division. Both the Phantoms and Howies captured a single minor for two minutes in the contest. On the game, the Phantoms put the puck to the net out shooting Howies 38-23.
