Despite there not being a pre-game light show, no green dragon mascot or even a good ole Phantom Fight, Phantom South kicked off the team's inaugural season at Rivertown Sports on Wednesday night and skated to a 5-3 victory against the Dragons. Brad Zehr would leap-frog Phantom South into a early lead just 11 seconds into the opening stanza, as the Muskegon native would unleash a patented bazooka blast past the Dragon netminder for a 1-0 lead. The lead would continue to swell as Brad would again net a goal roughly one minute later to put out the fire in the Dragons mouth with a 2-0 Phantom South lead. Prior to the end of the second period, Chris Wietfield would score to increase the Phantom lead to 4-1. However, with the Phantoms showing very little energy and very little emotion, the Dragons would begin to mount pressure and fight back. Two straight goals by the Dragons would narrow the contest to a 4-3 game in the third period. With the extra attacker on the rink and goaltender pulled, the Phantom's Chris Wietfeldt would net his second of the evening to put away the Dragons by the final of 5-3.
