Having narrowly defeated Roman Empire during week #2 of the post-season, the Phantoms returned to Cedar Rock on Sunday hoping to capture another ticket to the championship game. For the Phantoms, two requirements would need to be met in order to achieve the second championship game appearance in the past two seasons. The first was a victory against the Hawks and the second was keeping the goals against low enough to beat the goals against mark of Team Chowder. With Team Chowder not playing until later in the night, the Phantoms did not have a set number, but rather the focus to keep as many pucks out of the night as possible. This week marked the final week of the three game play-off round-robin style format and with three teams expected to complete the 3-game tourney undefeated at 3-0, goals against would be used to determine the top two teams that would advance. The Phantoms would begin the game watching a very harmless goal beat their netminder just 1:12 into the contest, as a screen shot from the slot would put the Hawks on the board early at 1-0. The Phantoms would not be phrased, Tim Czycyk would net his first of the post-season just 57 seconds following the Hawk go-ahead goal to tie the contest at 1-1. Brian Doctor would give the Phantoms their first lead of the night 1:20 later, as the 'recovering' Doctor would unleash a patented blast that would beat Hawk goaltender Jason Biczak for a 2-1 Phantom lead. Minutes later, the Phantom sculpting of the Hawk would continue, as Chad Manning would connect on a Tim Czycyk assist to pile drive the Phantoms into a 3-1 lead. That lead would continue into the third period, were the Hawks would begin to stage a comeback. Two Hawk goals in the span of 2:05 at the beginning of the third period would stun the Phantoms and tie the game at 3-3. With the intensity and physical play beginning to reach the boiling point, both teams would press on in a so-far penalty-free game. With 4:41 remaining in regulation, Jason Schemmel (proudly supporting his brand new Phantom jersey displaying his last name) would net his fourth of the post-season to lift the Phantoms into a 4-3 lead. Chad Manning would give the Phantoms some insurance 54 seconds later, as Manning would strike with his second of the night to push the Phantoms on-top 5-3. Trent Kik, the all time leader in franchise scoring, would put the finishing touches on the game with his third of the play-offs to give the Phantoms a 6-3 victory and a perfect 3-0 mark during the round-robin-style post-season. On the game, the Phantoms out shot the Hawks 30-22. Despite plenty of the elbows and trips, the officials would let the kids play as neither team would be sentenced to any penalties during the game. As mentioned, the tie-breaker would come down to goals against in the expected event that Howies, Phantoms and Team Chowder would complete the post-season with 3-0 marks. In three games, Howies surrendered a total of 5 goals and Phantoms surrendered a total of 7. In the closing game on Sunday, Team Chowder would defeat Team Jager 8-3, but those three goals against would lift their goals against total to 8 in just three games. The championship for the 2010 Spring Bronze division will come down to the Phantoms and Howies. During the post-season, both the Phantoms and Howies split the two-game regular season meeting at 1-1.
