The Phantoms dropped a 5-4 shoot-out contest on Sunday night to complete the regular season with a 6-4 overall record. Despite a Phantom's Jason Schemmel strike just seven seconds into the game, the Hawks would charge back with two opening period goals to climb into a 2-1 lead after the opening period. The Hawk lead would climb to 3-1 just 54 seconds into the second period, as the Phantoms would dig themselves into a deeper hole. Trent Kik would muster some Phantom life late in the second period, as Trent would tally career Phantom goal #100 to narrow the Hawk lead to 3-2 entering the third period. The Phantoms would slip into their second lead of the night mid-way in the third, as Jason Schemmel (unassisted) and Trent Kik (assisted by Chris Wietfeldt) would score Phantom goals roughly 3:30 apart to bring the yellow shirts into a 4-3 with just 3:43 remaining in regulation. However, the Phantoms would not be able to hold the lead in the final minutes, as the Hawks would net the equalizer with just 2:49 remaining in regulation to force an overtime shoot-out. The lone Phantom shoot-out goal on three attempts would be scored by Tim Czycyk and the Phantom netminder would be unable to stop the two Hawk attempts as the Hawks would skate away with a 5-4 victory. On the game, the Phantoms out shot the Hawks 27-22. Both teams were ticketed on a single minor for two minutes. The Phantoms will return to action on Sunday, March 28th to begin post-season play.
