The Phantom offense experienced a power shortage on Sunday evening, as the yellow shirts scored just a single tally in a 2-1 defeat by Team Chowder. In a very tightly played defensive contest under the lights of the Cedar Rock Sports Plex in Cedar Springs, Michigan, the Phantom's would receive just a single goal by Jason Schemmel as the team dropped only its first game in the past six games overall. The victory by Team Chowder marks the fourth straight win by the now defunct Rivertown Sport's Biohazard franchise dating back to last season. For the Phantoms, the team has scored just two combined goals against Team Chowder during the last two calls to duty. On Sunday, the Phantoms would manage to allow Team Chowder to jump into a 1-0 lead in the final third of the opening period, as a shot from the slot would beat Phantom netminder Kevin Wootton stick side for a 1-0 Chowder lead. The yellow shirts would capture the equalizer with under a minute later, as Jason Schemmel would net his eight goal of the campaign to lift the Phantoms into a 1-1 tie into the first intermission. That deadlock would remain intact until the final minutes of regulation, when Team Chowder would manage to dig the puck out of the left Phantom corner and dish a sweet-lead opening-feed to a unguarded forward stationed near the front of the Phantom cage. Despite a leaping attempt to detour the puck from the danger district, the Team Chowder forward would slip the puck into the back of the goal with just 3:14 remaining in regulation. Despite the Phantoms cashing in their single time out with 2:16 remaining the game and lifting the netminder for the extra attacker with roughly a minute remaining, the Phantoms would not be able to muster enough control and pressure during the final minutes to achieve the equalizer. The 2-1 victory by Team Chowder capitalizes the soup kids the season-series against the Phantoms 2 games to 0 and pushes them two points ahead of the Phantoms for sole control of second place. During the defensive showdown in Cedar, the Phantoms did manage to out shoot Team Chowder 26-19. Both teams were inflicted on three minor penalties for six minutes apiece. The Phantoms skated without the services of Darren Skuse and Matt Mead. Good Ole Boy defensemen and former Phantom Nate Tyler was again summoned to action on Sunday. The Phantoms will return to close out the regular season on Sunday, March 21st when the team takes on the Hawks at 6:00pm. Phantom Hockey...27 Seasons Long, 27 Seasons Strong!
