West Michigan Phantom Team President and General Manger Kevin Wootton has appointed Trent Kik as the team captain beginning for this upcoming Spring 2010 season. Kik has been a member of the Phantoms since season #16 (Summer 2006) and has been a key factor in the success of the club. Kik will be embarking on his 12th season as a Phantom and his 10th as a member of the Phantoms at Cedar Rock. Trent was a member of the Phantoms during the final two seasons at Rivertown Sports. This high-scoring lamp lighter has been apart of three team championships (Silver Winter 2006, Silver Spring 2008 and Bronze Winter 2008) and has been among the top goal scorers on the club since the team shifted play to Cedar Rock during the Winter 2006 season. In his Phantom-Cedar Rock career, Kik has registered 94 goals, 70 assists, 164 points and 144 penalty minutes. "Trent is a great player who understands the fundamentals of hockey" said General Manger Kevin Wootton. "He is not afraid to say what is on his mind and not scared to get into altercations to stand-up for his teammates" Wootton added. "The Phantoms are very fortunate to have stumbled across this Sparta native years ago and feel that Trent has the energy and leadership to lead the Phantoms" Wootton said. Trent will work in combination with Wootton to keep the team focused and make necessary adjustments to keep the Phantoms successful. Kik will be in charge of the line-changes and line-pairings and keep the bench motivated. All players that have issues or concerns will be asked to speak with Kik during game operations. The promotion of Trent Kik to captain is the first for the Phantom bronze team. During the Phantom Silver division era, the team benefited greatly by having an appointed captain and the team feels that by adding a captain role to the bronze team it will have the same added effect. Captain Kik and the Phantoms will embark on season #27 this Sunday.
