The West Michigan Phantoms punched their ticket to another successful regular season on Sunday Night, as the Silver edition of the yellow shirts complied a 12-2 victory against the Turkeys to improve to 6-3 on the season. With just one more game remaining in the regular season, the Phantoms have again posted another above .500 mark during the regular season. In now 25th seasons of hockey, the West Michigan Phantoms have complied an above .500 record in 17 out of 28 editions of the Phantoms and have rose above that even-ground mark in six out of seven Silver seasons at Cedar Rock. On Sunday, the Phantoms played without the services of numerous players due to the holiday weekend. Gordie Anderson, Chris Benedict, Brad Brooks, Norm Farr and Nate Tyler were all sidelined for the Phantoms. Sean Wert and James Trahan were called into action for the Phantoms, however, James was sent to the other bench, along with Jason Schemmel, to help out a Turkeys team that was complete in need of players. Scott Vandonkelaar returned to the Phantom line-up after missing the past three games due to emergency surgery roughly a month ago. With all of the player shortages on both sides, the Phantoms took on the Turkeys with a six-player bench and the Turkeys were able to drum up enough players to feature five. While the lop-sided contest was more of a conditioning test for the Phantoms, the Phantoms were led by Sean Wert who completed the contest with a double-hat trick. Tim Czycyk netted a three-goal-hat trick for the Phantoms, while Scott Vandonkelaar finished with a pair and Casey Rosenberg with a single. Late in the second period, the Phantoms reached the ten-differential goal-plateau and the game was called. Both teams remained on the rink during the third-period and scrimmaged against each other to complete the hour. During the game itself, the Phantoms out shot the Turkeys 29-14. The lone penalty during the contest was called to Turkey-loaned player Jason Schemmel in the second period. The Phantoms will return to the cornfield in Cedar Springs on June 28th to battle the Dangleberries in the regular season closer.
