The West Michigan Phantoms were able to end their two-game losing skid on Sunday afternoon, as the Phantoms used four goals in the second period, as well as two in each of the first and third periods to skate past the Dangleberries 8-6.  The victory marks the second win against the Dangleberries this season and improves the Phantom record to 5-2 overall.  The Men of Phantom Nation were aided by the unexpected return of Sean Wert to the Phantom line-up.  For Wert, he returned to the Phantom bench for the first time since a severe neck-injury side-lined the all-star just weeks before the Spring 2009 season started.  With the Phantoms experiencing another game without defensemen Scott Vandonkelaar who continues to recuperate following surgery, Wert was welcome addition to the Phantoms.  The Dangleberries and the Phantoms would go neck-to-neck from the drop of the puck.  Just 2:07 into the opening period, the Dangleberries would score to climb into a 1-0 lead.  Roughly three minutes later, the Phantoms Brad Brooks would deadlock the score at 1-1 (unassisted).  Minutes after, the Dangleberries would climb into their second lead of the night at 2-1.  Two minutes later, the Phantoms would again tie the duel as Brad Brooks would set-up Tim Czycyk for the Phantom red-lamp-lighter.  With just 4:21 remaining in the first period, the Dangleberries would fight back and recapture the lead at 3-2 to close out the opening period.  Following the opening period, the Phantoms were outshooting the Dangleberries 12-8.  In the second period, the Phantoms Trent Kik (assisted by Tim Czycyk) would again bring the yellow shirts back into a tie with scoreboard reading 3-3.  As if the game were following the storyline from the movie Groundhog Day, the Dangleberries would climb into their fourth lead of the night just 1:54 following the Kik connection to put the home team up 4-3.  With the Phantoms beginning to sense the need to climb ahead, Brad Brooks would begin the charge with 11:32 remaining in the period, as the first-season Phantom would connect on a Casey Rosenberg set-up dish to tie the contest at 4-4.  Just 1:12 later, the Phantoms would climb into their first lead of the night, as Chris Benedict would net an unassisted strike to give the Phantoms a five-spot on the scoreboard at 5-4.  Late in the second period, the Dangleberries would fight back the same way the Phantoms did when they were trailing in the game and netted their equalizer with 2:17 remaining in the period.  However, the Phantoms would continue to keep their nose to the grindstone, as Norm Farr would send the Phantoms into the second intermission with a 6-5 lead, as the Rivertown Fury product would set be up from long-time linemate Brad Brooks with just 38 seconds remaining in the period.  During the middle period, the Phantoms again outshot the Dangleberries 10-9.  In the third period, the Phantoms would climb into their first two-goal lead of the night, as Norm Farr would set-up Casey Rosenberg just 3:34 into the period to lift the yellow shirts into a 7-5 lead.  Late in the final period, Sean Wert would get on the scoresheet, as the former Rouge River product would set-up Tim Czcyck for his second of the contest to lift the Phantom crew into a 8-5 lead.  However, the Dangleberries would manage to climb just slightly closer to the Phantoms on the scoreboard, as the berry bunch would net their sixth goal of the contest with just 12 seconds remaining in the game to complete the scoring at 8-6.  In the third period, the Phantoms out shot the Dangleberries 8-7 and for the game managed to outshot the opponent 30-22.  Both teams were ticketed with a single minor for each minutes each.  The victory improves the Phantoms record to 5-2 on the season and keeps the Phantoms two points superior to Howies for the overall lead.  However, according to the Cedar Rock standings, Howies somehow has a game in-hand on the Phantoms.  Both the Phantoms and Howies will square off against each other next Sunday at 5:00pm.  During the Dangleberry contest, the Phantoms played without the services of Scott Vandonkelaar, who continues to recover following surgery.  Scott is expected back into the Phantom line-up on June 21st when the Phantoms seek revenge against the Turkeys.  Brad Zehr and Nate Tyler were also both scratched for the Phantoms this evening.  In other Silver news, Howies mercied the Turkeys in the other Silver contest of the night.  Howies has been red-hot as of late, capturing victories in their last three outings.  As mentioned, the Phantoms will return to action next Sunday at 5:00pm to take on Howies.  Following the game, members of the Silver team are encouraged to head to the Crazy House for food and drinks.  Members of the Bronze team will also be at the local pub.
