Crossing the 'Ts' and Dotting the 'Is' is something that teachers would always stress to their students in elementary.  On Sunday, the West Michigan Phantoms used the same approach to capture the teams third straight victory and continue their push up the Bronze league standings. Despite a scoreless opening period, the Phantoms used a pair of goals in the second period and a pair in the third to secure a 4-1 decision over the Hawks. This victory against the two-time defending champions end a two-game losing skid against this Cedar Rock foe dating back to last season and as mentioned, increases the Phantoms current winning streak to three games. The Phantoms would crack open the scoresheet 3:11 into the middle stanza, as Tim Czycyk (who returned after missing last weeks game) slipped one past the Hawk goaltender to put the Yellow Shirts on top 1-0. The Hawks would manage to tie the contest in the period's final minutes as none other than Cedar Rock owner Scott Ebenstein would unleash a bazooka blast from the slot deep inside the Phantom zone to deadlock the contest at 1-1. (Well OK, I might have embellished that a little. What really happened is with the Hawks inside the Phantom zone, the Hawks would set-up behind the Phantom net and Ebenstein would slip in front of the Phantom net unannounced and manage to receive a pass from a fellow teammate. Ebenstein would send the puck towards the Phantom goal and despite a lot of traffic in the crease, the biscuit would slide across the goal line tying the contest at 1-1.). Just less than a minute later, Justin Calkins would cross in front of the Hawk goal and restore the Phantom lead at 2-1 (assisted by Kevin Wootton). In the third period, the Phantoms would climb into a three goal lead as Jason Schemmel would register his sixth goal of the season (unassisted).  With a mere four seconds remaining on the clock in the third period, Jason Schemmel would capture his second of the night (assisted by Tim Czycyk and Tim Vanoverloop) to complete the scoring with the Phantoms on top 4-1. The Phantoms would be helped by excellent communication and great defense during the contest. On the game, the Phantoms outshot the Hawks 30-29. On the Nauty's Penalty Minute Board, the Phantoms would be ticketed with the game's only penalty, as Justin Calkins 'sat-and-stewed-for-two' on a high sticking infraction. The Phantoms return on SuperBowl Sunday at 3:00pm
