The defending Silver champions opened the Summer 2008 season in the same fashion as they did the most recent Spring 2008 season, with a victory. The Men of Championship Nation tallied the game's final seven goals to up-root the Missiles by the final of 9-2. Dating back to last season, the Phantoms have taken four of four from the Missiles, this most recent tally keeps the Phantoms undefeated against their weaponless allies. The Phantoms continued the team's rich tradition of surrendering the game's first strike which was tallied a mere 47 seconds into the contest as a slap-shot from the near red line alluded the Phantom netminder. The Phantoms would answer right back 1:05 later as Trent Kik (assisted by Scott Vandonkelaar) would capture the team's first goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. The yellow shirts would march into their first lead of the night 1:11 later as last season's championship game hero Chris Benedict would put the Phantoms on top at 2-1. As easy as the lead came, it would not last long as the Missiles would capitalize on a Phantom error 51 seconds later to again knot the battle at 2-2. Following the furious goal scoring start to the game in which four goals would be scored in the first 3:54, the offensive touch would be silenced for much of the remaining period. Yet, with just a two ticks remaining in the opening period, Chris Benedict would tally his second of the night (assisted by Scott Vandonkelaar) to give the Phantoms a 3-2 lead, a lead that the defending champions would not relinquish. In the second period, the Phantom's Chris Benedict would complete the hat-trick 6:24 into the stanza on an unassisted strike to give the Phantom's a 4-2 lead. The powerful and potent Phantom offense would continue to strike as Trent Kik (assisted by Chris Benedict) would tally his second of the night with 3:52 remaining in the period to increase the lead to 5-2. In the third period, the Phantoms would waste just 24 seconds to continue their assault as Chris Benedict would muster his fourth of the night to increase his team's lead to 6-2. Roughly three minutes later, Trent Kik (assisted by Gordie Anderson) would capture his third of the night completing the hat-trick and giving the Phantoms a commanding 7-2 lead. The offense by the Men of Phantom Nation would continue to real in highlights on the night. Following a Chris Benedict bazooka-blast from the offensive blue-line, the Phantom's Gordie Anderson would find the loose puck in the legs of the Missiles' netminder to give the Norton Shores resident his first goal of this early Summer season. With time running out in this one-sided contest, Brad Zehr would tally his first of the season with just 1:55 remaining in the contest to add icing on the cake for the Phantoms. The 9-2 victory by the Phantoms would be the perfect start to the season in which the Phantoms are seeking the first-ever 'repeat' by a Phantom franchise. On the game, the Phantoms out shot the Missiles 27-25. On the Nauty's Penalty Minute Clock, the Phantoms were ticketed with four minors for eight minutes, while the Missiles were also tagged for four penalties for eight minutes. On the Nauty's Out of Town Scoreboard, the Red Devils defeated Howie's by the final of 6-3. The Phantom's are asking everyone, were do you hangout and relax after work? We hangout at Nauty's.
