The West Michigan Phantoms who are known for celebrating the various nationalities through-out the world made good Sunday as the team paid tribute to Cinco de Mayo.  While the only thing Mexican in terms of the Phantoms is Corona, select members on Phantom Nation wore special mustaches during the warm-up skate to honor the Mexican victory over French forces back on May 5, 1862.  As the Phantoms began the contest against the Red Devils, the teams netminder continued the streak of surrendering the games first goal minutes into the period, 1:38 to be exact.  However, following that strike the Yellow Storm with the Phantom crest erupted for three straight goals in the span of 2:16 to jump into a 3-1 lead.  The Phantoms Trent Kik (Assist-Casey Rosenberg) spearheaded the offense roughly three minutes after the Red Devil goal to tie the game at 1-1.  Thirty-six seconds later the Phantoms Chris Benedict (Assist-Scott Vandonkelear) connected to give the Phantoms a 2-1 lead, a lead that the team would not relinquish through-out the game.  The Phantoms Gordie Anderson would complete the Phantoms opening period assault with his first goal in three games to give the team a 3-1 lead.  However with the Phantoms desiring to continue the scoring, the defense would leave the Red Devils Jarad Newville wide open on the Phantom right-wing and the former Rouge River star would strike with a mere 10 seconds remaining in the period to narrow the score to a 3-2 Phantom lead.  In the second period, the Phantoms would answer right back as Chris Benedict (Assist-Scott Vandonkelear) would score 30 seconds into the middle stanza to regain the Phantoms three-goal-grip at 4-2.  The Phantoms would continue to ratchet-up the offense during the period, as with 7:29 remaining in the period Gordie Anderson (Assist-Scott Vandonkelear) would capture his second strike of the game to increase the lead to 5-2.  With 54 seconds remaining in the period, Casey Rosenberg (Assist-Chris Benedict) would continue the drumming to the tune of 6-2 with his first of the night.  In the third period, the full-time firefighter and the biggest practical joker on the team Casey Rosenberg would connect with his second of the game to continue the on-slought at 7-2.  Minutes later, the Red Devils would respond with a pair of goals 1:47 apart to narrow the lead to 7-4.  However, the Phantoms would not be phased as the Yellow Shirts would connect with a pair of goals of their own by Chris Benedict 1:47 apart to restore the five-goal-grip at 9-4 (Assists to Gordie Anderson and Caesy Rosenberg).  Despite a fight deep-inside the Phantom zone late in the period between the Phantoms Nate Tyler and the Red Devils Juan Hernandez, the Phantoms would close-out the victory in calm fashion as the Men of Phantom Nation capture their second straight victory over the Red Devils.  The back-to-back victories by the Phantoms over the Red Devils is the longest winning streak against the Red Devils since the teams first season at Lazerskate (Winter 2006) which reached four-straight.  For the Phantoms, the team played a game in which many classed as the cleanest game against the Red Devils in quite some time.  During the contest, the Phantoms were ticketed with four penalties for 11 minutes (3 minors and 1 fight) and the Red Devils were ticketed with seven penalties for 17 minutes (6 minors and 1 fight).  The Phantoms out-shot the Devils 36-20.  The victory improves the teams record to 5-3.  On a side-note, the Phantoms received word that Ty Coon has been scratched indefinitely for the Phantoms as a result of a leg injury that will keep the former BioHazard star out for possibly the rest of the season.  On the game, Chris Benedict tallied four goals and two assists to lead the Phantoms.  Casey Rosenberg tallied two goals and two assists, while Gordie Anderson tallied two goals and a single assist for Phantom Nation.  Trent Kik captured a goal, increasing his goal-scoring streak to two games.  Due to the fight late in the game, Nate Tyler has been handed a one-game suspension as he will add another line into the Phantoms Tough Guy Tribute listing.
