The day began around 12:30 in the afternoon on Sunday.  Four team members gathered to watch the final game of the NHLs regular season between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings.  Of course most of the group was die-hard Red Wing fans and as the Wings began to break open the score the group ramped up its trash talk towards the only Blackhawk fan in the building.  Despite the abuse towards the Blackhawk fan, he kept his head high knowing that this season was the first in recent memory that the Blackhawks posted a winning record.  In the locker room, those that were not at the house with the four players began to make some quick comments towards the Blackhawk fan that was assembling his goaltending gear in the corner.  Again, he just brushed it off and bit his tongue.  As the Phantom group assembled their gear and made their way to the rink, the team was eager to play another contest against Howies. Earlier this season the Phantoms were completed waxed by Howies to the tune of a 12-2 drumming.  With the Phantoms suffering a shortage in manpower, the seven skaters and goaltender knew that they were going to have to battle hard and play smart if their hopes for a victory were to come true.  However, Howies would open the games scoring 4:35 into the contest to take claim to a 1-0 lead.  The Phantoms would answer right back, as Casey Rosenberg would give the Phantoms the equalizer.   A mere 2:06 after the Rosenberg strike, Brad Zehr would connect giving the Phantoms a 2-1 lead.  Late in the first period the Phantoms Matt Zehr would strike off a Ty Coon dish to close the opening period with the Phantoms on top 3-1. As the second period began, the Phantoms Chris Benedict would tally his second on the season with 7:06 left in the stanza to put the Men of Phantom Nation in control of a 4-1 lead.  With Howies now facing their largest deficit of the season, the Calvin Kids began to step up their game and step up the intensity.  Howies Chris Pasma would connect off a Jason Koole pass 1:03 after the Phantom strike to narrow the score to 4-2.  Minutes later, the Phantoms Casey Rosenberg would regain a 3-goal-grip for the Phantoms as Rosey would accept a pass from Ty Coon with 4:07 remaining in the period.  Howies would answer back 1:40 later with a power-play goal on a two-man advantage to again trim the Phantom lead to two-goals at 5-3.  With 75 seconds remaining in the period, the hat trick would become an accomplishment for the Phantoms Casey Rosenberg as the Fire Fighter again restored the Phantoms three-goal-lead at 6-3.  Despite the Phantoms outscoring Howies in the second period, Howies was on the verge of breaking through as the team outshot the Phantoms 21-8 in the second period.  The wonderful efforts and scoring chances by Howies in the second period would not go unanswered in the third.  Lance Verkaik would began a stunning comeback by Howies 45 seconds into the third period as the team narrowed the Phantom lead to 6-4.  The Calvin Kids continued their all-out assault on the Phantoms.  Despite the Phantom netminder Kevin Wootton making some of his greatest saves in recent seasons, Howies would manage to break-through the near force-field in the Phantom net with 5:50 remaining in the period as Chris Pasma would register his second of the night and put Howies to within one goal.  The Phantoms were throwing everything they had left at Howies in a effort to hold back the highest scoring team in the Silver division.  That effort would face a huge set-back with 1:35 remaining in the period as the Phantoms Gordie Anderson would be sent to the penalty box on a hooking infraction.  Just 18 seconds remaining in the game, Howies would complete the comeback and register the game-tying power-play goal closing out regulation tied at 6-6.  It was back on July 15th, 2007 when these two teams last faced each other in the overtime shoot-out.  During that contest the Phantoms won 10-9.  This time, both teams were featuring different players.  The Phantoms decided to shoot last.  Phantom netminder Kevin Wootton would turn aside the first two attempts by Howies.  The Phantoms Chris Benedict would score during the second round for the Phantoms.  Howies would manage to score during the third round and the Phantoms Matt Zehr would be denied in the third round.  With the shoot-out tied at one goal apiece, Howies had one last shot remaining.  With the Phantom bench nervously watching the Howies player motor into the zone, the teams netminder would bring cheers to the Phantom bench as he challenged the shooter and covered the puck before a shot could be taken.  Now it was the Phantoms turn.  A goal and the Phantoms win or a save by the Howies netminder and the game would end in a tie.  The Phantoms Casey Rosenberg would be sent over the boards and with three-goals already on his resume for the game, Casey would launch the black biscuit over the shoulder of the Howies netminder giving the Phantoms a 2-1 win in the shoot-out and a 7-6 win on the contest.  Casey Rosenberg finished the game with 3 goals plus a shoot-out goal, Brad Zehr, Matt Zehr and Chris Benedict each tallied a single goal on the night.  Ty Coon completed the night with two points on two assists.  (Note: only two assists were dealt to the Phantoms on six goalsPoor Stat Keeping)  The victory by the Phantoms improves the teams record to 2-2 on the season.  During the game, the Phantoms were outshot 53-37 by Howies.  The Phantoms were ticketed on three minutes, all of which were minors for six minutes total, while Howies endured a single minor for two minutes.  The Phantoms were without the services of Scott Vandonkelaar, Brian Doctor and Trent Kik.
