The Phantoms continued to climb towards the top of the Bronze league standings on Sunday, as the Phantoms skated to a 3-1 victory over the defending champion Sharkies. The Phantoms used three different marksman to tally the strikes for the Men of Phantom Nation and called upon the team's netminder to keep the lead. Late in the first period the Phantoms would get on the board, as Steve Downing set up Keith Mooreman for his second goal of the season and a 1-0 lead for the Phantoms. That goal would be scored on the powerplay, as the Sharkies goaltender has called with a two-minute high-sticking penalty for clubbing the Phantom's Brent Vandonkelaar on the head with his goaltender's paddle. In the second, the Phantom's Brent Vandonkelaar would get his own revenge on the Sharkies netminder as the Muskegon product would score 58 seconds into the period to double the lead to 2-0. The Sharkies would manage to strike with 7:30 remaining in the period following some deep pressure inside the Phantom end to trim the lead to 2-1. The Phantoms wasted no time returning to a two-goal lead as 45 seconds following the Sharkies strike the Phantoms Keith Mooreman and Jason Schemmel would set Brett Smith and the longtime Phantom would net his fourth of the season giving the Phantoms a 3-1 lead. Defensive hockey would then take control for the balance of the game as neither team would be able to light the lamp for their respective clubs. The victory by the Phantoms increases the team's overall record to 3-0-1. The Phantoms outshot the Sharkies 29-26 on the contest. The Phantoms deserve some honor, as the team completed the entire contest without a single penalty. As for the Sharkies, they were ticketed with a lone penalty for two minutes. The Phantoms will return to action next Sunday at 8:00pm to take on Hunting Deadlines.
