All of the build up and all of the anticipation paid off for the West Michigan Phantoms on Sunday, as the Men of Phantom Nation took claim to a 5-4 victory over the Missiles.In a game that exceeded everyones expectations, the Phantoms delivered the knock-out game-winning strike with a mere 5 seconds remaining in the game as Casey Rosenberg netted his second of the game.The victory today by the Phantoms marked a terrific night for several members of the team, as Chris Benedict scored a goal in his debut in a Phantom sweater and Brian Doctor tallied a goal and an assist in his return to the Phantom line-up.However, the Missiles would open the games scoring 3:19 into the contest to climb to a 1-0 lead.The Phantoms would answer late in the opening period with 1:50 remaining as Casey Rosenberg would capture an unassisted strike to even the game 1-1.However, a shot from the point by the Missiles with a mere second remaining would find its way through a maze of players and behind the Phantom netminder to give the Missiles a 2-1 lead after the opening 16 minutes.The Phantoms would gain the equalizer 5:26 into the middle stanza as Ty Coon would set up Brian Doctor on the Phantom point and B-Dock would unleash a bazooka-blast to the top-corner of the net to again tie the game at 2-2.Then, with 5:07 remaining in the second period all of the time waiting for the Navyman to make his debut paid off, as Casey Rosenberg would dish the puck to Ty Coon who would hand the black biscuit over to Chris Benedict would score, giving the Phantoms a 3-2 lead.The goal by Chris Benedict would be his first goal as a Phantom and his first goal in the state of Michigan in several years.Minutes following Bennys strike, the former Mona Shores star would be banished as Chris Benedict would ticketed with a 5 minute major for cross checking.The Phantom penalty killing unit would be brilliant, shuting the down on the Missile power-play.Yet, as was displayed in the opening period, the late-period-curse for the Phantoms would again roar its ulgy head as the Missiles would tally a goal with 3 seconds remaining in the middle stanza to even the contest at 3-3.During the third period, the Missiles would appear to take the life right out of the Phantoms with another goal 3:56 into the game.Despite the short-fall, it would appear that the Phantoms would respond to the fullest as Scott VanDonkelaar would connect on a Rosenberg pass to even the contest at 4-4.Late in the third period the Phantom Penalty Killing unit would again get called into action as Brian Doctor would be forced to take a two-minute tour of the sin-bin on a Roughing call with only 2:32 remaining in the game.The penalty killing unit would again pass with flying colors.With the penalty over to the Phantoms and 31 seconds remaining in the game it would appear that the game would be destined for the over-time shoot-out.However, the Phantoms had other plans, mainly Jason Devroy and Brian Doctor who would set up Casey Rosenberg with an excellent scoring opportunity.Casey would come through and connect on a goal with just 5 seconds remaining in the game.The Phantom strike at the 15:55 mark would seal the victory and complete the comeback.The Phantoms would outshoot the Missiles 32-25 on the contest.The Phantoms would be ticketed 13 minutes in penalties, while the Missiles would receiver a mere 6 minutes.The team was without the services of Brad Zehr who was placed on the teams injured reserve earlier in the week.The victory improves the Phantoms record to 1-2.
