What a difference a week makes!One week after opening the season with a 5-5 tie against the Wheelers and being outshot in that contest 42-31, the Jr. Phantoms returned and completely dominated the House team earning a 7-0 victory.Excellent communication, terrific puck movement and a great effort by the 10-man unit were all keys to the Jr. Phantom victory.In one of the greatest shot differential performances by any Phantom team at Lazerskate, the Juniormen peppered the opposing netminder with 47 shots on goal.The Jr. Phantoms would open the scoring 5:06 into the contest, as Brett Smith would receive a pass from Tim Vanoverloop to lift the Phantoms into a 1-0 lead.The Jr. Phantoms would keep the pressure hot and heavy and despite several key saves by the opposing netminder, the Jr. Phantoms would gain an insurance goal with 1:21 remaining in the opening period as Brent Vandonkeleer would strike off a Tim Vanoverloop sweet lead feed to lift the Phantoms into a 2-0 lead after the first 16 minutes.The second period would continue to feature a great match-up between these two first-season teams in the Bronze league as the first-second-period goal would not come until 7:39 into the period as Brett Smith would capture his second of the night unassisted to begin what would be a trifecta of Phantom goals in the span of 1:12.Following the Jr. Phantoms third goal, Brent Vandonkeleer would strike 0:30 seconds later of a pass from Brett Smith to Patrick Ewerth to increase the Jr. Phantom lead to 4-0. The Jr. Phantoms would continue the assault 0:42 seconds later as Brent Vandonkeleer would complete the hat-trick with his third goal of the night, on an assist from Patrick Ewerth to Brett Smith.Jr. Phantom netminder Kevin Wootton would receive a stunning salute late in the second period as the veteran netminder completely committed highway robbery on a Houseteam/GrandValley player as the leather of the netminders glove appeared out of no-where.The Jr. Phantoms would capture their largest shot-differential of the three periods in the second period; out shooting the adversaries 18-5.In the third period, the Jr. Phantoms would add two more strikes to the scoreboard.Patrick Ewerth would knock one home 6:09 into the third stanza, off a Tim Vanoverloop to Brett Smith pass.Tim would then go from assist man to scoring man with 3:19 remaining in the game to conclude the scoring with the Jr. Phantoms recording an impressive 7 goals.On the night, Brent Vandonkeleer would register a three-goal hat-trick, Brett Smith would endure a 5 point night on a pair of goals and three assists, Tim Vanoverloop would capture a four point on one goal and three assists.On the game, the Jr. Phantoms out shoot the House team 47-18.The Jr. Phantoms were ticketed for two minors for four minutes and the House called on two penalties for four minutes.The team was without the services of Jason Schemmel who could not make the early contest.The team will return to action next week to tangle with Black and Gold.
