After struggling to only compile 13 goals in three play-off games, the West Michigan Phantoms exploded to rout the Grand Valley State Laker B team in the season finale 10-3 on Sunday. The Men of Phantom Nation displayed one of the best-played games by the team this season. Despite falling down 1-0, the Phantoms answered with goals from Casey Rosenberg and Jason Devroy just 49 seconds apart late in the first period to overcome the Lakers to take a 2-1 lead after the opening period. Following that short and quick outburst by the Phantoms, the team never looked back and easily controlled the Lakers for the balance of game. The Phantom offense continued to mount and pursue an all out assault in the second, as Casey Rosenberg and Nate Tyler would tally singletons and Trent Kik would strike with a pair of goals to increase the Phantoms lead to 6-2 after the middle stanza. The third period would continue where the second period left off, as another four Phantom goals would be scored to complete the Phantom rout in the final game of the Fall 2007 season. Trent Kik would again strike with a pair of goals in the third period, along with singletons from Casey Rosenberg and Scott VanDonkelaar. After the glare from the on-going goal-light subsided, the Phantoms claimed the victory 10-3, making this effort by the Phantoms the high-producing offensive showing in 26 games. The last time the Phantoms reached the double-digit plateau was July 15, 2007, with the Phantoms edged Howies 10-9 in a shoot-out. For the game, Trent Kik lead the Phantoms in scoring with a Texas-Sized Hat-Trick of four goals and an assist. Casey Rosenberg received a three-goal hat-trick for the Phantoms and an assist. Nate Tyler, the longtime Phantom who has been moved up to the offensive line tallied a singleton in the 10-3 win, giving the Phantom veteran four goals this post-season. Jason Devroy and team sub Scott VanDonkelaar rounded out the scoring each with singles. On the game, the Phantoms out-shot the Laker-B team 29-20. Of interested is the fact that the 20 shots surrendered by the Phantom is the lowest shot total from an advisory this season. On the Nautys Penalty Minute Board, the Phantoms were ticketed with three minors for six minutes, while the Laker-B team was ticketed with two minors for minutes. The Phantoms played without the services of Brian Doctor, Ty Coon, Mike Shaver and Matt Myers. The victory by the Phantoms closes out the Fall 2007 with the Phantoms riding the fence. During the 14-game season, the Phantoms finished with a 7-7 record. The Phantoms will return to the Cedar Springs rink in two weeks to open the Spring 2008 campaign on Sunday, March 2.
