With the Fall 2007 opening night scheduled in a mere four days, the West Michigan are pleased to announce the final two players to suit up for Phantom Nation. On this day, the Phantoms are excited to announce that Kraig Brown and Brandon Whalen become players #9 and #10 on the Phantom roster for the team's 21st consecutive season. On behalf of the entire Phantom team, we welcome the newest players to our team.
Brandon Whalen joins the Phantoms after a nearly two year absence from the Yellow and Black. Brandon, the older brother of long-time teammate Matt Myers, embarks on just his second full season as a Phantom. Brandon as was mentioned, played for the Phantoms nearly two years ago and has been a sub on two other franchise seasons. Brandon will bring some grit and stability to the Phantom defense. Brandon is expected to join up with Mike Shaver to create the second line of the Phantom Defensive Unit.
Kraig Brown embarks on his first ever season with the Phantoms, and his first season in the Silver league at Lazerskate. The bronze league superstar from last season's reigning champion Junkyard Dawgs tallied a league best 18 goals during the regular season and assisted on a third best 11 goals to complete the regular season with 29 points. Those 29 points registered him for the third best offensemen at Lazerskate in both the Bronze and Silver leagues. During the play-offs, brown tallied 5 goals (one of which on Wootton) and added 3 assists to complete the championship run. One excellent stat is the fact that during all 14 games for the Junkyard Dawgs, Kraig received only 3 penalties for 6 minutes. (Trent and Casey...Take Note). Kraig is expected to join Matt Myers on the offensive line for the Phantoms.
With the regular season roster complete, the Phantoms are ready to take aim at the Silver League with a very impressive roster of 10 skaters and a goaltender. Casey Rosenberg, Gordie Anderson, Matt Zehr, Trent Kik, Matt Myers and Kraig Brown will hold down the Offensive lines for the Phantoms. Brad Zehr, Nate Tyler, Mike Shaver and Brandon Whalen will anchor the Defensive core. Kevin Wootton will again guard the pipes for the West Michigan Phantoms.
