The Phantoms closed out a Cinderella Style season on Sunday, February 11, 2007 as the West Michigan
Phantoms captured the team's third championship in the Franchise's 18th season. The Yellow Shirts
battled back from two separate deficits to knock-off the defending champion Rouge River 7-6 to take over the championship title. The game would be a very high-scoring competition between two of the highest
scoring teams at Lazerskate during the regular season and then into the play-offs. The Phantoms

would open the scoring just minutes into the game, yet Rouge River would not be denied, as the Rivermen would seize a first period lead after the first 16 minutes at 3-2. During the second stanza, the Phantoms would begin to battle back as the Yellow Shirts would erupt with two second period goals to erase the deficit and tie the game at 5-5 after 32 minutes.

The final period would be a test for every player on the rink. Not only would the players be tested on their hockey skills, but also on self-control. Tension between Rouge River and the Phantoms had been mounting for nearly two games. During the third period, a physical brand of hockey would be played out. Rogue River would capture the first third period goal to climb back into the lead at 6-5. The Phantoms would answer right back to seal it at 6-6. With time running down on the clock, Rouge River would be ticketed with a minor penalty. That would create a Phantom Power-Play and with 1:49 remaining in a game a face-off deep inside Rouge River territory. Casey Rosenburg won the draw and sent it back to Nate Tyler who Radiated a Rocket from the Right Wing and with a screen in place from Gordie Anderson, the Rouge River netminder would not have a chance as the Phantoms seized a 7-6 lead.

With time running out, Rouge River would turn to desperation. Nate Terveen, Rouge River's highest penalized player during the regular season, would attempt to take out the Phantom's Trent Kik deep inside the Rouge River zone. That attempted knockout would land no where as the Phantom Offensemen returned to the neutral zone to help protect and preserve the single goal lead. Rouge River would experience difficulty in capturing control of the puck, as the Phantom crew detoured several attempted Rogue River passes back deep into enemy territory. With Dylan Lambert in full flight towards the Rouge River bench, time was running out on the Rivermen. The Phantom Neutral Zone shield was in full force and Rouge could not break through. The Phantom's Matt Zehr would send another puck the length of the rink, yet Nate Terveen would continue on his all-out head-hunting excursion and Matt would be completely overtaken from behind and crumpled into a hemp just outside the Phantom Blueline.

The classless and immoral actions from Nate Terveen all night long would continue as he landed nearly seven punches at the back of Matt Zehr's head as Matt lay face-down on the rink until Brian Doctor came to the aid of his fellow teammate. Both the Phantom and Rouge River benches cleared and this all out melee with only 7.2 seconds remaining on the clock would continue for over a minute as both teams became embedded in a mission to protect their own teammates. Casey Rosenberg would become in-grossed with another Rouge River player nearly six feet away as those two unleashed an arsenal of blows. This all-out neutral-zone dance would be a very disappointing end to a championship game that was billed to be the best of the night. Once order was restored, it was decided by the officials that the game would be called and that the Phantoms with a 7-6 lead would be crowded the new Silver Division Champions at Lazerskate Sports Plex.
