The Phantoms dug in and played hard on Sunday Night to come away with a 10-1 verdict against the Red Devils and advance to the Silver Division Championship game. The decisive victory ties the Phantom Record for the longest consecutive winning streak in a single season at 12. The original mark was set by the Phantoms during a Fall 2003 season at Rivertown Sports. Yet despite the excellent mark, the team is still eight victories short of tieing the Phantom Longest Winning streak outside a single season. During the tail end of the Summer 2003 season and all the way into the Fall 2003 season, the Yellow Shirts compiled 20 straight wins before falling in their 21st game. The Phantoms played a very energy filled and emotional game on Sunday against the Red Devils. The Phantoms kept charging forward and kept pressure on the Devils. The non-stop-let-up by the entire Phantom team led to the Red Devils becoming a little agitated and that agitation lead to several minor disputes between both benches. Yet, the Phantoms played through the Red Devil distractions and closed out the scoring with a goal eight seconds before the final buzzer sounded. It wasn't only the Phantom and Red Devil players that created a spirited and heated battle, but the numerous Phantom Fans that were in attendance for this Must-Win game also were kept on the edge of their seats because of mounting tension in the stands between them and the Red Devil fans. Apparently the Red Devil cheering section was a little offended by the Phantoms desire to 'run up of the score.' Kind of strange because a look at last week's scoreboard found that the Red Devils marooned the Junkyard Dawgs 7-2. Too bad the Phantoms didn't have the Green Dragon at this game.
