post-what-are-you-thankful-for-thanksgiving-contest1.jpg

As we all sit around this evening completely stuffed with food or making another trip to the counter for another piece of pumpkin pie, I would like to wish everyone on our team, including the wives and girlfriends, a Happy Thanksgiving.  The history of thanksgiving in North American goes back 394 years and the first national United States Thanksgiving was proclaimed in 1789 by George Washington as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favours of Almighty God.  As we hopefully spent the day with our friends and family, this holiday has become a powerful holiday as a way for all of us to Give Thanks for what we have in our lives.  From good health and home, to good family, friends and of course of the Burger King Whopper, we all are grateful and thankful for so much.  As I mentioned during PhantomFest, I again mention today how grateful I am to have known all of you and how fortunate I am to be playing alongside some great hockey players and friends.  Things happen for all of the right reasons, and there is no way this street hockey goalie from Muskegon would have become friends with so many in Grand Rapids without Phantom Hockey.  We are all brothers, and while we may fight and scream at each other at times like brothers, deep down I wouldnt change anything about the support and bonds we have grown to share as friends and teammates.  So, before I go into a few highlights concerning the Phantom team itself, I just want to say Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and your families.

As for the Phantoms, we continue to be a strong team amidst a competitive league.  During this Thanksgiving break, we sit with a 4-3 record and sit tied with Gun Ru for fourth place in the league.  This season can be best broken down into three different segments, the first 7-games in which we have just completed, then a three game stand in December before the Christmas break and then the final stand of nine games to run from January through March.  I know that this team will manage to play our game to the best of our ability and will come through at the end of the season to post an above-.500 record and be a solid team in the league.  During our first seven games, there were two games that I felt we should have won and did notFlos and Bent Shafts.  We will learn from our mistakes and push on as we have done during the previous 39 seasons.  We have had our fair share of injuries that have affected some of our players and the never-ending vacations and unexpected obstacles that arise from time to time in this game of life.  Regardless, we push on and we control our fate.  To this point, a 4-3 record is good considering the challenges we have faced so far.  As we look into the future, Myers will return to the lineup and we will see our offense increase and we will polish up on some of the issues we havent been able to focus on due to the limited players at the games.  The future is bright and the Phantoms will march on.

There is one topic that has been bothering me for four days.  I claim all responsibility for the issue that occurred last Sunday against the Bent Shafts and vow that it will never happen again.  I have a tremendous amount of pride in our team and ensure we run this team professionally.  With two different jerseys (Yellow and now Black), I was very frustrated and upset when I did not have enough yellow jerseys nor black jerseys on hand last week to ensure we had a sharp dressed matching team on the rink.  I have plenty of spare jerseys at home and did not have enough at the game which created a sloppy looking and difficult condition for our team to play in.  For thatI apologize.  I will ensure going forward I have plenty of extras on hand.  Additionally, I did order several pairs of the yellow socks  this week and have several pair of the black socks at home in the event someone does not have a set.  With our team dressed the same, it helps us stand out from the rest and helps to bring our team to the next level.

The last part of this message to the team deals with the two upcoming events for the Phantoms.  The Hawks@Wings game at the Joe Louis on March 2nd and the annual Charity Game at Van Andel on March 26th.  Please be sure to double the check the lists below and ensure you get me your money for both by Mid February.
