The West Michigan Phantoms came to play on Sunday and displayed their best performance of the young season as the Yellow Shirts defeated the Dess Boys by the final of 4-1.  Four different members of the Phantoms would register goals for the team and five others would capture assists to keep the undefeated streak intact and increase it to a perfect 3-0 on the season.  Nate Skoboda would lead the charge for the Phantoms, as the former Grandville star would record his second of the season (assisted by Steven Flood and Nate Tyler) with 5:20 remaining in the opening frame to give the Phantoms a 1-0 lead.  That Skoboda strike would occur while the Phantoms were skating with Brad Zehr in the box for a slashing infraction and would mark the first short-handed goal for the Phantoms this season.  In the second period, the Phantoms would register three strikes late in the period just 1:22 apart to jump into a commanding 3-0 lead.  Wes Harmon would notch his second goal in team history, as the former Army Reservist would receive a set-up dish from Tim Vanoverloop to push the Phantom lead to 2-0.  Sixty-five seconds later, Sean Wert would strike with his second of the season (assisted by Nate Tyler) to push the Phantoms into a 3-0 lead.  Andrew Erickson would answer right back 16 seconds later, as Erickson would net his fourth of the season and extend his goal-scoring streak to three goals and increase the Phantom lead to 4-0.  Less than 30 seconds following the Erickson goal, the Dess Boys would manage to overpower the Phantom defense on the right wing side and slide the puck on goal and beat the Phantom netminder low-shortside to trim the Phantom lead to just 4-1.  Despite the highly offensive end to the second period, neither team would be able to capture a tally in the third period.  Late in the third period, the Phantoms powerplay unit would display a near perfect two minute effort while the Dess Boys were serving a bench minor.  For the entire Extra-Man-Band by the Phantoms, including a line-change midway through the two minutes, the Yellow Shirts would keep control of the puck in the offensive end and register several glorious scoring opportunities.  Following the Dess Boys return to full strength, tensions from one of their players would spill over and force the officials to call the game with roughly ten seconds remaining.  In a mission to create injury, a Dess Boys member (#20) would take a run at the Phantom's Nate Skoboda just right of the Dess Boys goaltender.  That action would force the Phantom's Wes Harmon to take matters into his own hands to defend his Phantom teammate.  Wes Harmon, a former Army member, would quickly and powerfully take care of the Dess Boys member as other members from both teams would 'pile-up' inside the Dess Boys zone.  Despite a great effort by the officials to break-up the fight, it would take a long time to restore order and with so little time on the clock remaining it was decided to call the game.  In the end of the fight, the only Phantom penalty would be sentenced to Wes Harmon for fighting (1-game suspension).  As for the Dess Boys member who created and caused the disturbance, he would receive the following: 5 minutes-Fighting, 5 minutes-Body Check, 5 minutes-Head Contact and a game-misconduct for each of the following: Body Check, Fighting, Head Contact and a double game-misconduct.  To summarise the penalties for the Dess Boys member, a five-game suspension.  The Phantoms will return to action on Sunday, June 17 to take on Bob's Bar at 6:00pm.  That game will take place on Father's Day and if any member can not make the game they are asked to contact Woot ASAP.  In addition, league fees ($140) are due by each member of the team at this time.
