Sean Wert was able to tack on a few more goals in his quest to conquer the 50-goal mark in his Phantom career this season, as the former Rouge River forward struck with three goals to lead the Phantoms to a 6-2 win over Pioneer on Sunday at Walker Ice & Fitness. The victory brought the Phantoms into the double-digit category in victories this season with 10 and capture the season series against Pioneer with a current 2-0 record with a single match-up remaining in March.  The Phantoms were able to climb on the scoresheet late in the opening frame, as Nate Skoboda would tally his seventh of the season with 5:35 remaining in the period (assisted by Chad Manning) to give the Phantoms a 1-0 lead after one period of play.  In the second period, Pioneer would even the duel just over two minutes into the period as Rich Karnes would strike with his first goal of the season to deadlock both clubs into a 1-1 tie.  Just over a minute later, the Phantoms would restore their lead as Sean Wert would stage his 11th of the season (unassisted) to push the Yellow Shirts into a 2-1 lead.  Exactly three minutes later, Pioneers leading scorer Kirk VanderHorn (league's fourth highest) would stage his 23rd goal of the season to again stage the equalizer for Pioneer.  With 4:55 remaining in the middle frame, the Phantoms Sean Wert would again strike with his second of the contest (assisted by Matt Mead) to restore the Phantom lead for the third time during the game and to give the Phantoms a 3-2 lead after two periods of play.  In the third period, Chad Manning would tally his second point of the night just 2:10 into the final frame, as the recent Phantom member to accomplish a milestone would push the Phantoms into a 4-2 lead (assisted by Nate Skoboda).  Late in the contest, the Phantoms would take advantage of the tired Pioneer group as two more goals by the Yellow Shirts would power the Phantom finish.  Brad Zehr would tally his fifth of the season (assisted by Matt Mead and Kyle Clark) with 1:56 remaining in regulation to increase the Phantom lead to 5-2.  With 33 seconds remaining in the game, Sean Wert would dazzle his way in front of the Pioneer net and despite being tripped at the goal mouth, the Rouge River veteran would complete the Hat Trick and despite falling, re-create the famous Bobby Orr photo as Wert would tally his 13th goal of the season.  The Wert goal would complete the games scoring and give the Phantoms a 6-2 win and increase their overall record this season to 10-4-2.  The Phantoms played without the services of Tim Vanoverloop (who sustained injury earlier in the week during a Rivertown Sports game) and Casey Rosenberg (who was working at the Fire Department).  Nate Skoboda and Kyle Clark each were called into action and both tallied points in the victory.  Neither team was ticketed with a penalty during the course of the game.  The Phantoms will return to action on Sunday, March 4 as the team battles Agape at 8:20pm.
