Despite having a winning record through the first six games of the Winter 2011 season, the West Michigan Phantoms have run out of time to 'test the waters' and get use to their new surroundings on Ice. Following a 0-1-1 mark in the team's last two outings, the Phantoms will continue to face-off against tough opponents during the next four weeks as the team continues to fight through the most difficult part (middle part) of the team's Winter 2011 regular season. Through the initial six games of the season the Phantoms have registered 24 goals (fourth most in the ten team circuit), however, the numbers are far below what the Phantom offense is capable of scoring. As many on the team have noticed, the Phantoms continue to play as if the team is involved in inline hockey at Cedar Rock Sports Plex and after six weeks to adjust to the transition, the time is now for the Phantoms to change their ways and boost their extremely sluggish offense. Martin Luther King Jr. once said "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." For the Phantoms, the comfort and convenience the team faced at the beginning of the season has been replaced with opponents that are among the best in the league and forcing the Phantoms to truly be tested.  In the past two games, the Phantoms have failed to display a decent showing against those teams.  The Phantoms have made changes to the lines and have tried to put the pieces in place, however, our style of play, lack of hustle, lack of pressure in the offensive zone and the lack of player positioning to yield pressure and control the game, is prohibiting the Phantoms from being successful.  It is time for our players to come together, dig in and play with the passion, heart and skill that has allowed the Phantoms to be a top-notch team for nearly nine years.  It is time for the Phantoms to quit using the transition to Ice as an excuse and get their asses in gear and play ice hockey.  To help with the coaching side of things, the Phantoms are announcing that Casey Rosenberg will take-over as Team Captain and help force the learning and skill that is needed to generate offense, but still keep our defense strong.  Through six games, the Phantoms have surrendered 26 goals which ties them for eighth which sounds misleading, but 12 of those goals were scored against the team in a single game.  Minus that game alone, the Phantom defense and goaltender are yielding a 2.8 goals against average through the remaining five clashes at Walker Ice.  On the positive side, the atmosphere in the locker room and the team as a whole as been among the best the team has experienced in nine years.  Its time to bring both pieces together and see just how good this Phantom team can be on ice.
