The West Michigan Phantoms were inflicted with their first overtime defeat on the season Sunday night, as DeBoer edged the Phantoms in the shoot-out by the final of 4-3. Despite the Phantoms jumping into a quick 1-0 lead just 40 seconds into the opening period on a Brad Zehr strike, the Phantoms would play catch-up for the balance of the night and not be able to get much luck in the process. DeBoer's Dave DeBoer would bring both teams into a tie with just 1:14 remaining in the opening period, as DeBoer's leader would stage his team leading third goal of the season and bury the puck past Kevin Wootton in the Phantom goal to mount both teams into a 1-1 tie after the opening period. Just 19 seconds into the middle period, DeBoer would climb into their first lead of the night at 2-1. Roughly seven minutes later while exerting extensive pressure inside the Phantom zone, DeBoer would climb into a two-goal lead as a shot from the left wing would elude traffic in front of the Phantom cage and beat the Phantom netminder to bring the black-shirts into a 3-1 lead. While on the powerplay late in the second period, the Phantoms would trim the deficite to a single goal as Casey Rosenberg would land a sweet-goal-mouth-feed to Nate Tyler parked solo just to the left of the Deboer cage. Nate Tyler, the 32 season Phantom veteran would rocket the puck into the near open-net to stage his second of the season and bring the Phantoms to within one goal to end the second period trailing 3-2. In the third period, the Phantom's Gordie Anderson (assisted by Tim Vanoverloop) would net his second of the season as the Muskegonite was able to riffle a shot past the DeBoer cage protector with 4:27 remaining in regulation to tie the game at 3-3. With just under three minutes remaining in regulation, both teams would begin to raise the intensity and physical nature of the contest, as plenty of players would be sentenced to penalties creating an open sheet of ice for the final minutes. Despite the open room, neither team would be able to strike prior to the buzzer. For the first time this season and just the second time in the past two seasons, the Phantoms would advance to the shoot-out to decide the winner. Trent Kik would manage to be the only Phantom out of three skaters (Casey Rosenberg and Brad Zehr the others) to register a goal for the Phantoms in the extra frame. DeBoer would strike on their first and third attempt to capture the shootout 2-1 and capture the victory by the final of 4-3.  The overtime defeat lowered the Phantom's record to 3-1-1 on the season. The team will return to action on Sunday, November 20th to tangle a very strong Deke Squad at 9:30pm.
