The West Michigan Phantoms hopes to achieve the championship game in the teams inaugural Ice Season fell short on Tuesday night, as the Grand Valley Turkey Timers used a strong second period to defeat the Phantoms by the final of 7-1.The Phantoms, who all season long were among the best offensive teams in the eight team circuit, were able to stage just a single strike in the opening period by Matt Zehr (assisted by Sean Wert) during the second-round of the post-season.The Turkey Timers would manage to stage two goals in the opening period, four in the second and one in the third to cap the victory by the #3 seed (Turkey Timers) over the #2 seed (Phantoms) on Tuesday.The Turkey Timers were able to capitalize on numerous second and third chances in the front of the Phantom net and manage to net a couple odd-man rush attempts against the Black & Yellow.The victory marks the most goals surrendered in a single game this season for Phantom Ice and ties the Phantoms in a June 14th clash against Superman for the fewest goals scored in a game.The Phantoms played without the services of Matt Myers, Mike Shaver and Rob Higgins.The Phantoms would complete the contest with four penalties for 16 minutes, while the Turkey Timers completed the night with three minors for six minutes.The loss kicks out the Phantoms chance for a championship game bid this season, as Superman and the Turkey Timers will advance to next weeks championship game.The defeat by the Phantoms lowers the teams overall record to 10-3-0-1 on the season.The Phantoms will close out the teams inaugural season at Walker Ice & Fitness on Tuesday, August 30th at 9:20pm in a consolation game at Walker.
