The West Michigan Phantoms displayed a hard-fought and energetic fight on Tuesday, however, fell to MRI in the overtime shoot-out to lower their record to 7-2-0-1 on the season at Walker Ice & Fitness.  Nate Skoboda would begin the games scoring early in the first period, as the former Grandville Bulldog would stage his eighth of the season (assisted by Andrew Erickson) to lift the Phantoms into a 1-0 lead.  However, four minutes later MRI would manage to even the duel as a shot from the right slot would ride up over the right shoulder of the Phantom goaltender to bring both teams into a 1-1 tie.  Less than a minute later, the Phantoms Nate Skoboda would stage his second of the night (assisted again by Andrew Erickson) to restore the Phantom lead at 2-1.  Rob Higgins would give the Phantoms their first two-goal lead of the contest with 3:02 remaining in the opening frame, as Higgins would net his third of the season (unassisted) to give the Phantoms a 3-1 lead entering the first intermission.  In the second period, a rather shaky period by the Phantoms would yield three consecutive goals by MRI to allow the red shirts to take their first lead of the night into the third period.  The Phantoms game equalizing strike would occur 6:28 into the third period, as Andrew Erickson would net his first of the season (assisted by Mitch Hoolsema) to bring both teams into a 4-4 tie.  That tie would continue through the final buzzer of regulation, extending the Phantoms into their first ever overtime shoot-out at Walker Ice & Fitness.  Electing to shoot first in the three-round shoot-out, the Phantom offense which is among the highest scoring in the Tuesday-Night league at Walker would be held scoreless in their first and only three attempts as Nate Skoboda, Matt Myers and Andrew Erickson would be denied by the MRI goaltender.  On the Phantom defensive front, netminder Kevin Wootton would hold strong through the first two attempts by MRI, however, be unable to contain MRIs third attempt which would go down as the official game winner to allow MRI to take a 5-4 Overtime victory against the Phantoms.  The Phantoms will close out the regular season with a 1-0-0-1 record against MRI.  The Phantoms will return to action on Tuesday, August 2nd at 10:30 against Demon Hockey.
