The West Michigan Phantoms continue to be ravaged into a rare tail-spin as the Phantoms earned another defeat on Sunday falling to Team Jager by the final of 8-4. The loss, which is the fourth in a row for the yellow shirts, continues to push and slam the team's regular season record into the cellar at 1-3-0-2. Not since the opening game of the season back on February 13th have the Phantoms been able to capture a victory. On Sunday, the Phantoms appeared to be on the right track as the team jumped out to a 2-0 lead within the games first six minutes with goals by Chad Manning (assisted by Tim Vanoverloop) and Chris Benedict (assisted by John Dykehouse). However, during the balance of the opening period Team Jager would jump back with two goals to send both team's into the intermission tied 2-2, despite the Phantoms outshooting Team Jager 13-8 in the opening period. The second period would witness Team Jager ultimately take full advantage of the lagging Phantom squad, as Jager would net five goals on 14 shots compared to only two goals on eight shots by the Phantoms (Jason Schemmel and Chris Benedict the scores for the Phantoms with Tim Vanoverloop netting an assist on each tally) to close out the period infront 7-4. In the third period, a late goal by Team Jager in which the Phantom netminder would again be plowed over would witness Team Jager take stake in a 8-4 whitewash of the Phantoms. On the game, Team Jager out shot the Phantoms 30-27. Those 30 shots registered by Team Jager mark the most surrendered by the Phantoms this season. The Phantoms would be ticketed on a single minor for two minutes, while Jager was sentenced on two minors for four minutes. The Phantoms will look to return to the positive side of hockey on Sunday, as the team takes on the Puck-Ups at 6:00pm. The Puck-Ups are the only team this season that the Phantoms have managed to skate away with the win.
