Members Expected To Step It Up And Start Playing

A team is only as good as its weakest link, however, this season the weakest links appear to be the members who have led the Phantoms to winning records over the course of several seasons.  Through now five games of the regular season the Phantoms have skated to a disappointing record of 1-2-0-2 and reside towards the bottom of the seven team Bronze division.  Tension continues to mount and for club General Manager and goaltender Kevin Wootton, the team needs to start playing as if they want to be a part of Phantom Hockey.  For years this team has shown the energy and excitement, however, as of late numerous errors and a non-excited bench have been displayed by the Bronze team at Cedar Rock, said Wootton.   The Phantoms, currently in the midst of a four game losing streak, have not been able to find the net and appear to be unable keep leads in the third period.  Wootton went on and added the following about the teams current lack of success: One would think that the $30 league fees commemorating the 30th season of Phantom Hockey, combined with numerous team events, a talented roster and several new internet-based ideas would have the Phantoms souring, but this season that is just not the case.  We are receiving scoring from members who we dont expect to score much; however, we are not receiving scoring from players like Trent Kik, Jason Schemmel and Chris Benedict which we expect. The Phantoms through five games this season have netted only 17 goals which is one goal per game fewer than the team scored last season.  With three losses due to one-goal this season that extra goal is key.  I understand that everyone goes into dry-spells and has rough games, however, after five games of a some-what questionable offense, I expect more than what we are currently registering.  The Phantoms have always been a team that is able to fight through obstacles and many on the team expect that this too is just a little rough patch.  It is easy to make comments via email, text messages or on a website concerning ones issues or our teams issues.  What we need are people to stand up in the locker room, stand up on the bench and be very vocal during our games, because that is when it counts.  We win as a team and fall as a team, no single person can blame others for a teams lack of success, but we need to address the key issues and start playing as a teamstart playing as if we want to be successful and start scoring goals.  It appears are defensive issues have been corrected (except for giving away third period leads) and we now need our offense and key forwards to start stepping up and doing what we know they can do.  I am tired of excuses, tired of complaints after games and tired of us not performing as I and each and every one of you know we can.  Our second half of the regular season starts now and I expect everyone to step-up and start playing as Phantoms.
