Phantom South dropped the season opener at Rivertown Sports on Wednesday, falling to the Storm by the final of 6-5 in overtime. The Phantoms would struggle from the start of the contest as the game marked the first game in 3 weeks for the members of the Black and Yellow. Despite a back-and-forth duel between the Phantom's and a house team that featured numerous players who played in the game before, the teams would experience numerous lead changes and ultimately prolong the contest into overtime. Despite the Phantom's allowing the Storm to skate in a 2-0 breakaway in the extra stanza, the team's netminder would handle the situation and steer aside the breakaway by the Storm. However, minutes later the Storm would be presented another breakaway opportunity and make good on their shot to skate to a victory against the Phantoms by the final of 6-5. Longtime and original Phantom Nate Tyler would co-lead the Phantoms on the night with a pair of goals alongside Keith Moorman. Kyle Clark would manage to tally a singleton as well as add two assists in the loss. The victory earned one point in the standings for the Phantoms who will return to action on February 16th at 8:00pm to take on the KC FaGGots. On the contest, the Phantoms would be sentenced on the lone penalty of the game which occurred in the third period. A special thank-you goes out to all members of the Phantoms for turning in league fees on opening night. Our mission as a team is to create a great environment for the lowest cost possible and all of our members (with the help of someone's dad :)), were able to step-up and keep our costs below $90 per person. Thanks again everyone.
