The West Michigan Phantoms were able to truncate and negate a two game losing streak on Sunday and in the process clinch second place for the 2010 Winter Bronze division in a 9-1 victory against the Stallions. The victory marked the first victory since November 28th when the Phantoms defeated Mungdual by the final of 6-3. Moreover, the victory snaps a two-game losing streak against the Stallions at Cedar Rock and ends a franchise five game losing streak spanning the coarse of both Sunday and Wednesday team play. While the score may surprise many people, the Phantoms feel that the game did not show the true talents of a Stallion team that blasted its way to a 8-1-1 regular season record. While the Stallions did play without a few of their top-guns, the Phantoms too were relatively short on the skillful side, as three of the team's top members were absent from the Sunday contest. Leading scorer Tim Czycyk, team captain Trent Kik and star defensemen Brian Doctor were all sidelined on Sunday, leaving the Phantom squad very low on talent. The Phantoms feel that even with those members of the Stallions gone from action, the contest should have been a lot closer and expected that more effort would have been displayed by the Stallions that were there. It is not has if the Phantoms showed up with their full roster and judging by the course of history and knowledge the Phantoms have at Cedar Rock, many on the team were discussing the topic of "Are They [the Stallions] Really Playing and trying?" Maybe the Stallion's effort at tarnishing their final two games of their up-to-then perfect 8-0 record was a way to justify their existence into a Bronze division. That is something that may never be proven. However, there is more to a season than just two games. The upcoming post-season will be the best judge at how competitive they really are. Despite many on the Phantom's attitude towards what occurred, many were pleased by the performance the yellow shirts displayed on the rink. The Phantoms have been in a slight slump as of late and maybe this game was a turning point for the club and a sign that the Phantoms truly have their 'swagger' back. Game statistics were not kept during the contest, as Cedar Rock did not have enough officials at the start of the game to be able to keep track of statistics. The Phantoms also played without the services of Darren Skuse. The team will return to action on Sunday, December 19th to open the post-season. A play-off format and structure has yet to be announced by Cedar Rock. More information will be posted once it is known.
