After much fanfair and attention, members of the West Michigan Phantoms made the most of one of the largest parties of the Summer on Sunday, one problem...a hockey game the next day. Partyfest 2010 lived up to every expection and numerious members of the Phantom family partied until 5:30am the day of the team's contest against Howies. With only a four team division it is not like many of the teams are worried about play-off positioning or seeds and the Phantom's 6-4 defeat to Howies will not matter at all. With only seven skaters, the Phantoms displayed an ok showing against Howies but did not receive any of the Howie lucky bounces during the three period contest. Three Howie goals in the opening period would put the Calvin Kids on top 3-0 after the opening period. That deficite would reach 4-0 in favor of Howies before the Phantom's Jason Schemmel would strike with 3:08 remaining in the middle period to put the Phantoms on the board trailing 4-1. Despite a relitivily low shot total through two periods, Howies would make good on their non-hangover to keep their lead in tact. In the third period, Howies would climb into a 5-1 lead before the Phantoms would find enough life to climb back. Tim Czycyk would continue to the lead the Phantoms in scoring with his 16th goal of the season just eight seconds following Howie's fifth goal. The Czycyk strike would be unassisted and push the Phantoms to within three at 5-2. Minutes later, Jason Schemmel would register his second of the evening to move the Phantoms closer at 5-3. Just 3:30 later, the Phantoms would again capture a tally as Tim Czycyk would net his 17th of the season to bring the Phantoms to within one at 5-4. However, Howies would manage to add an insurance tally with 5:10 remaining in the duel to restore a two-goal-grip at 6-4. Despite the Phantom efforts of pulling the goaltender with roughly 1:30 remaining in the contest, Howies would fend off the yellow push and skate to just their first win against the Phantoms this season. On the game, Howies out shot the Phantoms 23-22. Howies was ticketed with three minors for six minutes, while the Phantoms were ticketed with just one penalty (to the goaltender Kevin Wootton) for two minutes. (Gotta stand up for the Captain). The Phantoms skated without the services of Brian Doctor, Tim Vanoverloop and Gordie Anderson.
