The West Michigan Phantoms returned to action on Sunday and completely dominated the Puck-Ups to the tune of a 9-2 Phantom victory. For many on the Phantom roster, it was a weekend filled with hockey as many members were also involved in the Phantom-South play-offs at Rivertown Sports on Saturday. With the blood of hockey nestled in the veins of the team, the Phantoms played one of the fastest and greatest games of the now seven game season and in the end tallied nine goals from five different goal scores to end a two-game winning streak against other Bronze teams for the Puck-Ups. Tim Czycyk would continue to feed off an excellent season, as the multi-season Phantom veteran would tally the first three Phantom goals (all in the first period) to push his scoring numbers to a highly sought-after 15 on the season. The Phantoms would continue to blast their opposition into oblivion in the second period, as four more goals would be tallied by the Phantoms before the Puck-Ups would manage to get on the board. Casey Rosenberg would begin the second period offensive scoring, as Rosey would mark his first hockey goal in over a year, as Rosenberg was called into action for the first time since a July 26, 2009 contest against Howies. Trent Kik would push the Phantom lead to 5-0, as the Sparta native would net his fifth of the season (assisted by Justin Calkins) to continue the Phantom push. Jason Schemmel would strike with 9:20 remaining in the period to increase the Phantom lead to 7-0. Casey Rosenberg would light the lamp again, as the Norton Shores fireman would net his second of the contest to bring the Phantoms into an 8-0 lead. With the tensions heating up and frustrations building on the Puck-Up bench, it was just a matter of time before the contest reached the boiling point. Just minutes following the Phantom's eighth goal, Gordie Anderson would be slashed and hit just one too many times by the same Puck-Up. Following a few words the two players would drop the gloves and go at it. At the same time as this altercation was occurring, the Phantoms Casey Rosenberg and a Puck-Up would begin discussing the situation. Following the Puck-Up forward stepping on the stick blade of Rosenberg, he would flatten to the rink and get up ready to fight Rosenberg in a fight that would be similar to a pop can vs. a semi. Following the several minute delay, two players from both teams would be ejected and the Phantoms would be presented a powerplay following a bench-jumper during the on-rink circus. The Phantom's inability to score on the powerplay would give the Puck-Ups some life. In the span of 2:15 following the Puck-ups return to full strength, the Puck-Ups would cash in on two quick strikes to narrow the Phantom lead to 7-2. In the third period, the Phantoms and Puck-Ups would return to the friendly nature and complete the contest with just two more Phantom goals to complete the contest with a 9-2 Phantom win. Jason Schemmel and Brian Doctor (assisted by now defensemen-Trent Kik and forward Justin Calkins) would be the third period marksmen for the Phantoms. The 9-2 win pushes the Phantom record to an impressive 6-1. On the game, the Phantoms out shot the Puck-Ups 26-19. The Phantoms would be ticketed with three penalties for 17 minutes, while the Puck-Ups lived up to their reputation with 7 penalties for 25 minutes. The Phantoms will return for a team party on Saturday at Brian Doctor's house in North Muskegon following by a possible game against Howies on Sunday at 3:00pm.
