Team Jager was just too much for the Phantoms on Sunday, as the yellow shirts dropped their first game of the season by the final of 7-4. Citing a three goal performance by Team Jager in each of the first and third periods, the league leading Phantoms could do nothing to muster the energy and will to complete a rally. The Phantoms would not manage to climb on the scoreboard until the raining minute of the opening period, when Brian Doctor would set up Tim Czycyk for the opening Phantom strike to bring the Phantoms to within two, trailing 3-1 entering the second period. Team Jager and the Phantoms would exchange middle stanza strikes midway into the second period, as Jason Schemmel (assisted by Gordie Anderson and Brian Doctor) to stage the Phantoms goal to advance the duel into a 4-2 Team Jager lead. In the third period, the ill-fated Phantom machine would mange to only keep pace with Team Jager, as Gordie Anderson (assisted by Justin Calkins) would keep the Phantoms to within two, trailing 5-3. Team Jager would restore the three goal cushion with 3:28 remaining in regulation to all but put the nail into the Phantom coffin to push their lead to 6-3. Both teams would exchange goals in the final 1:11 to complete the scoring with a 7-4 final. Czycyk again with help from Brian Doctor would be the marksmen during the fourth and final Phantom strike. The victory marks the first time in six games that the Phantom Sunday squad suffers a defeat at Cedar Rock and ends a franchise 14-game unbeaten streak (including Phantom-South [Rivertown Sports] games). Both teams would be ticketed with just a single minor on the night. On the Justin Calkin's Photography Shot-Clock, Team Jager out shot the Phantoms 28-26. The Phantoms will try to regroup the troop next Sunday at 7:00pm, when the team takes on the Puck-Ups.
