Powered by a great performance in goal by Greg Foster, the Phantoms were able to remain atop of the league standings following a 4-2 victory at the hands of Team Jager on Sunday. Foster, in his first-ever Phantom call-up, turned aside 21 of 23 shots he faced as the former Good Ole Boy backstopped the Phantoms for the win. Despite a scoreless opening period for both sides, the Phantoms would clinch the games first goal 5:42 into the middle stanza, as Tim Czycyk would strike with his fourth of the young campaign (unassisted) to lift the Phantoms into a 1-0 lead. Exactly two minutes later, the lead would grow to two, as Trent Kik would squeak in his second of the season (assisted by Tim Vanoverloop and Chris Wietfeldt) to give the Phantoms some insurance. Late in the opening period and just minutes after a Team Jager penalty for tripping, the Phantom's Gordie Anderson would be sentenced to a slashing infraction. However, rather than just entering the box to sit and stew for two, the former Ground Zero forward would become disgusted at a single official would who get under Anderson's skin. In return, the Phantom forward would continue to spit words of an unfriendly nature towards the zebra and the initial two minutes would lead to an additional two for unsportsmanlike and further increased to a single game misconduct and game suspension before Gordie was vacated from the rink. With the 4-2 powerplay for Team Jager extending into the third period, the Phantom goaltending services of Greg Foster and the Phantom defense would manage to keep the goose-egg intact and kill off the entire Team Jager powerplay. However, a couple of minutes following the return to even-strength hockey, Team Jager would manage to ruin the shut-out bid for the Wyoming Park grad in the Phantom goal as Team Jager would climb back into contention at 2-1. That single goal grip would be the closest Team Jager would come during the contest, as 1:30 later the Phantom's Chris Wietfeldt would stage his first of the season (assisted by Tim Czycyk) to put the Phantoms back up by two at 3-1. Trent Kik would stage his second of the night and third of the season (assisted by Justin Calkins and Jason Schemmel) to complete Phantom scoring with the team's fourth of the contest. Team Jager would manage to stage a late third period goal with 37 seconds remaining to close out the contest with a 4-2 defeat. On the game, Team Jager out shot the Phantoms 23-19. On the Justin Calkins Photography Penalty Clock, the Phantoms would be ticketed with four penalties for 16 minutes, while Team Jager experienced the luck of the underdogs with just a single penalty for two minutes. The Phantoms will return to Cedar Rock on Sunday, June 20th to tangle with the Puck-Ups.
