Despite posting a decent 3.66 goals against average during the opening three games of the season, Phantom South netminder Kevin Wootton has been red-hot in his past two starts trimming his goals against average to a microscopic 0.50 during his last two games. On Wednesday, the now eight year veteran of the West Michigan Phantoms turned aside every shot he faced in helping the Phantoms earn two points in the Aluminum league standings and remain as the sole undefeated team in the six team circuit. &The 1-0 Phantom victory would be inflicted against former Phantom Andy Roseart and several Phantom opponents from the Cedar Rock's Puck-Ups. The shut-out victory for Wootton would be his first 'goose-egg' since a January 13th contest when the Muskegon Human Puck Deflector staged a 4-0 victory against Blades of Steel as a member of the now idle Good Ole Boys. On Wednesday, the Phantoms would manage to kill off several questionable penalties and rely on a second period goal from Brad Zehr for the game winner. On the only strike of the game, Brad Zehr would riffle a raising howitzer on Who Cares netminder Brian Dudek, who would be unable to control the rebound and with a quick centering pass by Chris Wietfeldt, Zehr would put the puck over Dudek's shoulder for the 1-0 second period lead. Excellent back-checking by the Phantom forwards, in conjunction with an outstanding Phantom defense would keep Who Cares at bay for the duration of the game and send them to the locker room with their league high fourth loss of the season. For the Phantoms, the team played without the services of Matt Zehr (work), Tim Vanoverloop (injured) and Jamie Dutot (work). The yellow shirts activated the services of Steve Downing and Gordie Anderson for the game. The victory improves the Phantom South record to league best 4-1 at the mid-way juncture of the regular season. The team will return next Wednesday at 8:00pm against the Dragons.
