Trent Kik etched his name into Phantom franchise history on Sunday, March 21st as Trent became the first player in the now 27 season history of West Michigan Phantom Hockey to top the 100-goal plateau. Now in this 11th season with the Phantoms, Trent entered Sunday's contest against the Hawks just a single tally away from the triple digit goal scoring title and for the former forward from Sparta High School, Kik's historic goal would be scored with 4:50 remaining in the second period. With the Phantom's asserting pressure deep inside Hawk territory, Phantom defensemen Brian Doctor would dish the puck to his partner Justin Calkins on the right wing and Calkins would unleash a blast towards the Hawk cage and Trent Kik would manage to tip the puck over the blocker side of the Hawk's goaltender Jason Biczak for the milestone goal. For Kik, he would add to his Phantom all-time goal scoring title in the third period, as Kik would receive a set-up from Chris Wietfeldt to capture goal #101. For Kik, the achievement of becoming the first player in Phantom history to officially tally 100 career strikes is very rewarding. "It Feels great," said Kik. "It is very surprising that of all the great teammates I've had over the seasons that I get to 100 first," Kik added. "I've played with [Matt] Myers, [Casey Rosenberg] Rosey and [Chris] Benedict, so to get up there with those guys and pass them is special" Trent said. Trent joined the Phantoms back in the team's Rivertown Sports days and played with the team during the final two seasons in Grandville.  Since the Winter 2006 season (Phantom Season #18 ironically), Trent has been apart of Phantom Hockey at Cedar Rock Sports Plex in Cedar Springs and has enjoyed his time with the yellow and black. "Its been great, time has been flying" Trent said. "I was 21 when I joined and I'm 24 now! Wow, it's been fun to meet allot of great people and play with allot of great players. My best moments of this team so far have been the silver seasons .. but the current bronze team is making some" Trent added. Trent, who has worn #18 since his career with the Phantoms began, entered this current season just six goals from his 100th. Despite receiving much fame and pressure in the locker room to become the first player to reach 100 career Phantom goals, Trent is glad it's now behind him. "Holy **** does it ****in feel great, especially since I haven't been as productive as I wanted to be this season," Trent said. "It feels awesome to put it behind me," he added. As mentioned, Trent entered Phantom Hockey as a Phantom sub during the Summer 2006 season at Rivertown Sports and jumped into a full time role one season later (also at Rivertown Sports). Trent was introduced to Phantom hockey by current Phantom and friend Nate Tyler. "Trent and I worked together, he told me about Cedar Rock and next thing I know he's playing for the Phantoms" Nate Tyler said. "Trent is a key element to the team, sometimes I think he has eyes in the back of his head, he is a good playmaker and has a hell of a shot," Tyler said. As a natural goal scorer, Trent tends to follow his hockey career and his contributions to the team. "Season to season i keep tally [of my stats] off the Phantom website.  I like to compare my goals to others on the team.  It really gives you confidence scoring in bunches and I haven't did that this season, so just getting to 100 is what i needed", Trent said. "It is kinda funny that when I was skating back to play defense this season, Chuck McCloud (Howie's Defensemen) asked me if I missed that last shot cuz i was thinking of 100, best line i have heard in a while," Trent said. In closing, great job and congratulations Trent on your milestone.
