The West Michigan Phantoms must have a thing for battling back from down two goals. On Sunday, the Phantoms again battled back and defeated the Puck-Ups by the final of 5-3 for the team's league leading seventh victory of the season. Spear-headed by a three-goal hat-trick by Tim Czycyk in the second period, the Men of Phantom Nation were able to overcome a two goal deficit and rally to post the victory. The Puck-Ups would get on the board first, as a shot with just 30 seconds remaining in the opening period would beat Phantom netminder Kevin Wootton to put the Puck-Ups on the board 1-0 after the opening period. In the opening period, the Phantoms managed to out shoot the opposition 10-8. The late opening period goal by the Puck-Ups did little to phase to the Phantoms, however, early in the second period the Men of Phantom Nation would watch as their team would suffer another blow. Just 21 seconds into the second period, the Puck-Ups would charge into a two-goal lead as the Puck-Ups would set-up shop in the Phantom zone and net paydirt early to climb into a 2-0 lead. For the Phantoms, the franchise has been the exception for now 26 seasons of hockey. When times get tough, the Phantoms get going. Phantom Silver refugee Tim Czycyk would, in the span of just 7:27, stage three goals (all assisted) to bring the Phantoms out of the dark side and into the spotlight. Those three goals would give the Phantoms their first lead of the night and give the yellow shirts a 3-2 lead after two periods of play. In the second period, the Phantoms again managed to out shoot the Puck-Ups 13-9. In the third period, the hard work by the Phantoms in the second period would be temporally silenced. A quick goal just 10 seconds into the third period by the Puck-Ups would deadlock the score at 3-3. The Phantoms would restore the lead roughly nine minutes later, as Phantom veteran forward Trent Kik would light the lamp to push the Phantoms into a 4-3 lead. In the final 6:36 of the contest, the Men of Phantom Nation would play some of the sloppiest hockey of the night, as numerous turn-overs and failed passing attempts would boost the Puck-Ups shot total and give them countless point-blank chances and glorious scoring chances. The Phantom's would receive an American bail-out, as franchise netminder Kevin Wootton would come up big in the final minutes and the Phantom's Chad Manning would put the icing on the cake, as the Rivertown Sports' Main Street Pub forward would cap the outcome with an empty net goal with 19 seconds remaining in the game to seal the 5-3 victory for the Phantoms. In the third period, the Puck-Ups out shot the Phantoms 11-9. On the game, the Phantoms edged the Puck-Ups 32-28 in the shot department. On the 96KBPS.com Internet Radio's Crime Watch, the Puck-Ups received the only penalty on the night for two minutes. The Phantoms played without the services of Darren Skuse and Chuck McCloud. As mentioned, the victory marks the league-leading seventh victory of the season for the Phantoms and captures the season series against the Puck-Ups 2-0.
